Negriljail - truthfully, math gives me a headache.
Brasi - you gave the guy a nice tip. Leave it at that, live and learn for next time.

Considering the size of a route taxi...and legally it is only supposed to have 3 passengers in the rear...a full taxi would be 4 people plus the driver. So why are you paying for 5 fares??
Because some taxis carry 5 passengers whether it is legal or not. Heck I've seen 6.
One time 6 passenger and the driver all the way from Spanish Town to Ochie. In not a very large car. ( Ouch)
Thank God I was a lot slimmer then
I usualy get dropped of just a little bit of the main road that the route the taxi drives
Mostly it's because I have a heavy load to carry and I am travelling with a few others.
Sometimes I even pay 2x times the route price to take up an extra seat and save time waiting for the taxi driver to get another passenger and to have a more comfortable ride.
This is especially fun to do in the front seat of a minibus if you are travelling a long distance. You can sit comfortably and have your bag/belongings on the chair beside you.
Where I stay they drive with 5 passngers. A lot of slim people in the area.
If I am taking up the taxi for my sole purpose I think it's fair to compensate the driver for that.
I preferr to offer the price rather than to barter. If they are not happy with the fare I check the next taxi.

I have a driver friend who showed me a pad he keeps for when he has to have someone sit where the gear shift is, the center console in the car front seat, you know? He had a great story about a larger woman riding there one time...
Pleae tell. lol
You know the ettiquete if you share a route taxi.
No matter how many men are allready in that taxi when you hail it one will always jump out and make you squeeze in and then somehow squeeze almost on top of you. If I suggest i would prefer to sit at the door the man will insist he doesn't want to sit next to the next man. Lol
It's definitely a story that requires that you see him tell it in person, with all his hand gestures and descriptions of the woman and her place in the car, what she said, what he said, etc
If you ever find yourself on the route between Duncans and Clarkstown....
