    "New York's economy is also much healthier than Jamaica's. The New York Subway can afford to set prices to that effectively off-set their costs. It's that simple."

    LOL. The subway has 7 million riders a day. You sure it's not the fares charged that cover their expenses? And me hopping in a route taxi adds to their revenue. More people more fare. Add I tip as well, as I'm sure many others do as well. And we all know some route taxi drivers supplement their income doing/selling other things, so are they really hurting that bad?

    I never take route taxis for 20 mile trips, just for little jogs of a couple of miles up the beach to the round about or up to cliffs from roundabouts. I share the ride with however many fares can cram into the taxi--sometimes just me in there or sometimes crunched up people on other people's laps. So it is apples to oranges asking for the price of a 20 mile ride in NY in a cab in which you are the only passenger--which in fact I have never done. My understanding of the route taxi system is that it is a set fare from point A to point B. But as said before, I do tip when I can.

    Taxi rates are held down by the depressed economy. That is all we are trying to say.

    depressed economy, eh

    economics is not my for-tay (sp?),
    so mi no know what a depressed-economy is.

    but,
    lately,
    mi-think, it sure would be nice IF USofA's economy was '.depressed.'
    so,
    all my expenses and these crazy prices would be '.held down.'

    then,
    i could tip more,
    and ride a around Jamaica in a limo (aka '.charter.' taxi)

    oh well
    so it goes

    Ok, that makes sense RHresort, understood. And hopefully whatever little or a lot of money we can inject into the economy helps

    have NO fear..!!..
    we-foreigners WILL inject a whole-heap into Jamaica's economy

    *our* contribution to Ja-economy is GUARANTEED...!!!...

    if the taxi-man don't getcha,
    you'd better believe::>> some somebody(s) WILL getcha

    ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    in fact,
    the more i think about this post,
    the more i realize that there's no need for me to worry about *injecting* anyting into Jamaica's economy,

    because,
    for some strange reason,
    no matter how hard i try to be frugal,
    on every-trip,
    somehow,
    the money seems to always get sucked out of my wallet.

    * sigh *
    dunno why/how

    smith you have superhero powers that keep money from being sucked from your wallet! But yeah a little here a little there, you hungry, you thirsty or craving one of those cookie/cake snack things--it goes. And so it goes.
