First, what's with all that patois, lol?

I don't think having to cook your lobster is an indication of poverty, lol. In the case of lobsters being prepared at most Negril restaurants, its an indication that you want to have a properly cooked lobster!

Lobster prices have varied a bit this season. At my fish market live fresh lobster in November was running at around 700JMD per pound (yes, most places charge by the pound) - when I checked last week though the price had dropped to 500JMD per pound.

Barbeques are expensive in Jamaica, at least the ones I've seen. And you don't really need one for good lobster. Get a large pot of water boiling rapidly, drop the lobbies (head first) into the boiling water and cook until they are rosy red - about 15 minutes. When done, drop into a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking. Serve with some garlic butter - yum.
