I've never heard locals or other business owners as well as ex-pats in other areas of Jam that I've frequented (Mobay, Trelawny,Port antonio,Ochi,Kingston)ever complain about tourists using route taxis-and why they shouldn't ,etc, etc....Seems to only become a heated topic when brought up in regards to the Negril area..(IMHO)
It only became a heated argument when it was insinuated that we who take the local transportation and pay the going rate are somehow taking advantage of the poor Jamaican taxi drivers who "are hurting and can barely make a living."

The system works, the drivers can make their money and nobody should feel bad about it using the available transportation. JUTA was designed to meet tourism needs on a broader scale. When I want to do a tour or airport run, I call the appropriate people. If I am going to the market or the beach, I'm taking a route cab.
