Look, hotels overbook as a matter of policy. When I worked in the hotel biz we'd regularly go to 110% occupancy. Why? Because OUR cancellation policy did not involve any charges if a cancellation was made 24 hours in advance. In the US that happens regularly. Most times we'd be fine even if overbooked but when we weren't our guests would be moved to a property of the same or BETTER caliber - at the same rate they were to pay us.
Ah, but that is the US. This is Jamaica. From what I've heard cancellation policies come with penalties if a room is cancelled TWO WEEKS or less out. So now you have money involved which should guarantee the hotel owner that the person will either show up or pay up. Either way, small properties like NBCC as well as large All Inclusive properties seem to do the overbook thing on a routine basis. The rub here is that the small independent hotels need to come together so that the guest can be made happy with a lateral or VERTICAL move up.
NBCC to Carribean Sunset? Apples and oranges but consider the time of year. It is frenetically busy in town right now - it always is the first two weeks of February. It is possible that NBCC's regular "go to" beach hotel for this type of thing is sold out solid. CS, not so much - it is much lesser known, in a "weird" location...yadda.
I would not be happy with that move at all. But I'm not sure what one can really do about it?
Here's my getting-bumped story with a happy ending:
About 10 years ago, I went to Cancun with my then-wife, who incidentally used to HATE IT when I chatted with other guests. It drove her crazy, but I used to do it anyway.
Anyway, I originally intended to book a hotel called the The Oasis but settled on a technically nicer property, the Grand Bahia Principe, and upon arrival we were BUMPED from the Grand Bahia to, coincidentally, the Oasis.
So I am actually relieved. I meet another couple, begin chatting (my then-wife is mad about this), and the couple informs me the same thing happened to them about getting bumped, but Gran Bahia had PAID them 700 dollars right on the spot!
Wow! I went back to Gran Bahia, and I demanded 700 dollars, too! At first, they said no way because I had paid a discounted rate (I never pay rack rates), but after about five minutes or so, they agreed, and handed over 14 $50 bills -- I was in heaven!!!!
I told the wife THIS is why I chat with folks. You never know the connections you might make!
This was a good trip. On the way, I also left my pouch with $1,550 at the airport during a layover in Guadalajara -- an extremely poor section of Mexico -- and it was returned to me in Cancun with every penny still inside (all taped up).

in almost 30 yrs of staying with JEAN at NBCC, she overbooked twice, both times she helped us down to CoCo La Palm for the night.........
this sounds rare to me.......................the condos that we always stay in are NOT a "Dive" or "Dump"..
.Old... and not up to date for 2012, but in full functioning order and they keep it clean................
But you wouldn't make this up................so fate must have singled you out ??
Too Bad, we have always been lucky I guess
what was your room number, did you ever get that far??
"One of the laundry gals pipes up ,,"LOOK AT DA BLOOD"
"YES,THAT WOULD BE MINE" I said as my leg that at first gave no pain, started dishing it out in large bunches........"
want more read our blog? our first trip.........http://negril.com/forum/entry.php?58...-The-Beginning
I was told by the ladies at the Beach Club CONDOS about 2 years ago that they would no longer be booking through Expedia and to book directly with them through email or over the phone. It appears that you booked with Negril Beach Club RESORT (Mariners) and not with Jean Gaynair.
If this is the case I would hope that the title of the thread could be changed to reflect that. NBCC is a separate business from the one I believe you have a problem with and shouldn't suffer the bad press.
It's a shame that the new owners of the Mariners part of the property chose such a similar name. This is probably the third or fourth time I've seen the two mixed up.
Where is Caribbean Sunset? Is that the place up the road by the curve...that leads to Red Ground? Not a good substitute!! So where did you end up staying?
