    Sav-La-Mar (scooters, other ?s)

I am splitting my next trip between Negril Cliff/Belmont/Negril Beach.

Are there scooter rentals in Sav? I have done some Google searching with not much luck.

I ask because it'd be neat to have a scooter in Belmont for my few days there in April.

    Options:

    1. Renting one in Negril and taking it there, luggage etc would be difficult...long trip on a scooter...I guess I could ask the Negril beach hotel I am coming back to stay with to keep some of my luggage...not a huge fan of that but it is an option I guess...

    2. I figure I could get to Belmont with my luggage via charter, (or get dropped in Sav on the way; or route taxi it back to Sav from Belmont after settling in) and rent a scooter there, if available.

    Any thoughts?

I really can't justify renting a car for that short of a trip for just me...maybe...but I like scooters better anyway.

I wouldn't take a scooter through Sav or along the South Coast. In Sav, too much traffic and those things just don't keep up - riding the south coast road can be dicey (especially at night) on a scooter or even a motorcycle (which we use) - WAY too many pot holes, narrow road, lots of truck traffic.

Your best best is to charter a ride. Arrive safe.

Ok...but can I rent a scooter in Sav, if I wanted to??

Brasi, I asked a local, he said no, rent from Negril.

You could have a charter carry your luggage to/from for you, eh? I like your luggage-storage idea too.

in sav you probably would only be able to rent 'locally.'

i'd have the place you are staying at in belmont make that arrangement for you ahead of time to save you the trouble and the fuss. can't hurt to ask them.

Glad you did well...Jasperpso....but that is nothing like getting from Sav to Belmont!

Hey, thanks! It's just my luggage now...

I know some have said not to, but I'm pretty confident I could make it to Belmont on one...

    It's only 38 miles...lol...an hour-ish/1.5 on the scoot...

I will see what the cottage can do, then decide...

OK, to each his own, lol! I know those roads pretty good though. Just sayin.

Brasi, I think it takes us about an hour to get to Belmont on the motorcycle..so 1 1/2 hours on the scooter (shudder - BE careful, WATCH for potholes that resemble small lakes) is a good guess - maybe two hours for a "tush" rest. Good luck.

Rastagirl, I hear you...and your advice is good...maybe I am a bit too adventurous...I dunno...

Thanks for the tip on the time it will take...(:

Even though I don't know THOSE roads, exactly, I do have some familiarity with roads in general in Jamaica--i.e. Not great, keep your head on a swivel, beep...beep...LOL. I have been out that way, on "A2" (I think that's the name) between Sav and Negril 4-5 times...I know it's not a road to sleep through...but I'll be sure to safe...and wear a helmet.

Since I'm not in a hurry, though, I could make a day out of it. More or less, enjoy some of the scenery along the way...stop for a Ting, and even find a cool spot for lunch in Sav, maybe. Obviously any drinking or other horseplay will be left until Belmont.

At that point I will have to drink double. LOL

Man these little side trips are becoming more and more fun.
