    Baby steps...A newbies trip report

Now that we are settled back into the normal grind I thought maybe it would be a good time to write a trip report and relive our first trip to Jamaica. Let me start with a little background on how we got there….

It was a pretty brutal winter last year when Beth (my girlfriend) and I decided that the following winter we would plan a trip to break up the monotony of cold, snow and ice. Knowing full well that Beth has never and likely would never fly, I assumed our possibilities would be limited to a cruise or a road trip somewhere down south. Much to my surprise she was open to my suggestion that we fly to Jamaica! The search was on……

The obvious first step was to look on the many travel sites for deals. The all inclusive resorts were attractive but I wanted more of a Jamaican experience, not a prepackaged candy coated version. I spent a few more days in my free time searching the internet for suggestions. That’s when I found negril.com and realnegril.com. After reading through the many message board posts it became very clear that we found our destination. Then the search for where to stay began.

I assumed Beth would want to stay on the beach because when one thinks of a vacation in Jamaica the image of sun, sand and blue water is always what comes to mind. I personally thought the cliffs would be more my style. I had my eye on the Blue Cave Castle but never said much of anything to Beth about it. Since she was willing to overcome her fear of flying, I thought I’d let her have full say on where we would stay. I knew any place would be better than the cold of the northeast in February.

It was looking like Fun Holiday was going to be our place. We liked the idea of being able to purchase all inclusive on a day to day basis. We were close to booking when Beth admitted to me that she had her eye on another place. She pulled up the Blue Cave Castle website and said how much she liked the looks of it. Of course I instantly admitted that was where I wanted to stay all along. Apparently she wasn’t as set on the beach as I thought she would be. BCC it was!

    To be continued........

Jim and I stayed there our first year in Jamaica, in the penthouse. It was delightful~~ Came back and wrote a trip report about it, and have not been able to book Valentines Day since. One time I should have kept QUITE!

Plenty more to come. I'm still editing but the first part is ready for posting. I still have to go through and get some pictures ready to post before I add much more.

We LOVED it there and will be there next Valentines day. We downgraded to one of the tower rooms for our next trip. This trip we stayed in a superior room but never used the AC and rarely watched TV.

I'm torn between Blue Cave Castle and Home Sweet Home. They both have enough good reviews. Waiting on my income Tax to come, then I'll flip a coin to see which on I'll book. It's a win win situation in my book.

I can't wait to hear more. It's always fun to read about a newbie's first impression.

I can’t speak about HSH but BCC is a magical place and great people.

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I hope it continues to hold your attention.

I’ll be posting more soon. I’m at work with no access to my pictures and I have a few to post with the next part. We didn’t take many pictures our first couple of days because we wanted to respect people’s privacy but as we became more comfortable with our surroundings we snapped more and more. I still won’t be posting most of them out of respect though. It’s a good thing I have Beth or else I probably wouldn’t have taken a single picture.

It IS a magical place...it's going to be a long year. (Actually, less than a year already!) It's great that we have the message board to re-live our experience with other Negril lovers. I have to start logging on more often!

mi know both places well and mi would go with Blue Cave Castle.......
sure Home Sweet Home has the pool and pretty similar location.......
but there is something truly special about Blue Cave Castle.......
and Ted's Hideaway food is off the chart at BCC.....and you can eat anywhere you want......
plus Petrona is a super sweet manager and Susan the owner cares about your stay.......
hey their both nice but mi think you will always think back after the vacation how special BCC was......
unless HSH is super cheap as compared to BCC........you know where I would stay.......lol
