    Day Four

Again we wake up and for the most part go through our usual morning routine. After having a few days under our belt we were much more comfortable with our surroundings and looked forward to getting further down the west end again.

We headed to the comforts of Pee Wee’s to get things rolling again. We sit down at the same bar stools as we had the previous day. I had been drinking beer so I decided to switch to liquor on this day. It was a decision maybe I should have thought twice about. We started out with freshly made pina coladas which we were told we had to try. They didn't disappoint.

Ater we get a couple of drinks in us we take a cab down the road to De Bar where we picked back up with several more of Trevor’s rum punches. We order some jerk chicken and had some great conversation with Ronnie (The “Dancing” Ronnie) as it slowly grew dark. At one point we toured Sunset on the Cliffs but it was too dark and by this time I had too many drinks in me to recall too many details. Beth seemed to be interested in the property and took a brochure for future reference. De Bar’s jerk chicken is probably the best we had during our whole trip or at least from what we can remember. We were having a great time hanging out and talking to other visitors but knew we should venture back closer to the hotel.

We made one last stop back at Pee Wee’s. As we sit down again in our usual spots they place a “Reserved” sign on the bar which made for a good laugh. Feeling invincible at this point we ordered JB and Tings. The first went down rather quickly if I’m recalling the moment accurately. By the time I started on my second I could tell I was getting really drunk. I decided it may be best to slow things down with a smoke but in hindsight that was a bad bad move. I should have just went to bed. Instead I try to tough it out and finish my drink. We buy some peanuts from a vendor to snack on and I'm hoping this will help me sober up a tad.

At some point after that Beth looked at me with what I perceived as a very concerned look on her face and said “We gotta go….lets go!” With that I gathered my things and we walked home with more than the usual escorts helping us navigate the road safely. Because I knew we had totally overdone it I wasn’t as comfortable with the attention this evening and was very concerned why Beth had such an urgency in her tone when she had asked me to leave.

On the walk back I had convinced myself that something “not right” had happened to Beth and she was keeping it from me for some reason. At one point I was so wasted that I was convinced I was “slipped” something and called my brother back home to let him know the details of the evening just in case. I vaguely remember Beth and hotel security trying to convince me to go to bed and sleep it off. Towards the end of my “episode” (for lack of better term) I blamed it on the peanuts and was convinced I had consumed “special” peanuts. I also remember saying I wish someone would just tell me what it was I was on so I could enjoy it! I didn't realize then it was just too much rum. We made it back to our room where I purged myself of whatever remained in my stomach of that last JB and Ting and went to bed.

    Day Five

Well needless to say I did not feel well at all the next day.

I believe I was still a little drunk yet when I woke up. I was still thinking that maybe the peanuts were to blame. I even made my way out of the room to ask security if maybe there was anything “in” the peanuts. I was told “Oh yea mon…..there’s a little nut in there you eat.” Mostly convinced it wasn't the peanuts I got a chuckle out of the innocent answer I had received to my question. I stayed in bed all day while Beth tried to keep herself occupied around the hotel. We were both feeling a little ashamed and I was a lot hungover. Beth was a little concerned we wouldn't be welcomed back to the hotel. I reassured her that I wasn't the first wasted person they've seen.

As sunset approached I was feeling well enough to make it to the balcony for a change of scenery. As darkness fell I made the walk of shame out into the courtyard hoping none of the other guests noticed last nigh'ts stupor. A little while later I was feeling good enough to eat. We ordered from Teddy’s and returned to the room to start anew the next and final full day.

Deja Vu.... The times at Debar are great...... And I party all day and night and have yet to be bounced. LOL. Harry at Catcha told me on my last reach that his bar revenue would be cut in half after I left. Maybe close but not half.

One of the things I quickly realized is that Jamaica can be whatever you want it to be. It's up to each person to create their own experience. If you're like me and most of your knowledge of Negril came from reading trip reports and watching webcasts, you'll discover there's much more going on when you get the blinders off and can see the full picture for yourself. At first it seems like such a big foreign place where your only welcome for your money. It doesn't take long though before you realize you do have a place in Jamaica if you're willing to drop your guard and open up to her.

    This is so true!
KevinPA - This was an awesome trip report! I loved it!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your first experience in Negril and all the great pictures (Hangover one was my favorite hehe - Markus looked exactly the same the next morning after a JB & Ting Spree. That stuff will knock you off of your feet! Oh and the lobster picture made me so hungry! I can't believe Lobsters will be out of season when we go in April)
    Thanks!
    Carpe Diem
