Is it just me? Beach etiquette

Chillin on the beach when a group sets up next to me with portable speakers for their IPod. Start playing American top 40. Now I don't listen to top 40 at home and I certainly don't want it with my Negril time. Do I say something ?? I didn't, just moved on, but a little peeved. Any suggestions, comments. Or is it just me??

I have the little portables....a must for travel....but PRAYING that I won't want or need tham on the beach...we have been spoiled so far by the reggae sounds of piped in stuff from the resort's bar speakers....and the awesome musicians on the beach....I AM, however, loaded for bear, so to speak, with 300+ reggae/roots tunes to play, if need be, at a low level

You are not alone. That's just rude & inconsiderate. I usually bite my tongue when this happens OR politely ask them to turn it down a bit. What peeves me even more is when they leave the music playing & go into the water for extended periods of time. This is one of the reasons I don't go to the beach here in FL. People think only of themselves, not those around them. I want to listen to reggae, not have someone else's choice of music inflicted upon me. That's why there are earbuds.

I'll listen to my music with my iPod buds in my ears. I feel the same way about that as I do about folks smoking cigarettes next to me on the beach!

It is really annoying and has happened to me. I usually just move away and don't say anything. That said, I have brought my own speakers out to the beach in Negril and played extensive reggae lists when the place I was at didn't have music going. But most times it was during low season and no one nearby. If someone did complain I would gladly turn it down, or off.

I would tactfully explain to them that they are being inconsiderate and that the music coming from the resorts helps with the ambiance. Not to mention the traveling musicians.

Totally agree it's very rude. On a previous trip a group played loud country western music. I asked nicely if they could turn it down and they told me I should just move. So even though others were complaining about it also we moved rather than create a problem. Last trip a group came and put there chairs right in front of us and proceeded to light cigars. Said nothing and just moved. I think it's better than getting in a confrontation.

On the North Coast there is a charge for many of the beaches .
Most of the beauty spots are only acccessible through Hotel grounds.
That's One of the attractions and Beauty of Negril. Public Beach.
