    Snorkeling options?

It appears that the snorkeling from the beach on 7 mile would just be looking at a sand bottom (expected on a beautiful beach).
In looking at a picture of Canoe Bar it appears there may be some structure in the water that might make snorkeling in that location more interesting (from picture I cannot tell if it is rock or seaweed beds). Has anyone snorkeled off the beach from Canoe and know what it is truly like?

Other options anyone cares to share?

    Thanks in advance,

Pee Wees would be good snorkeling for the cost of a couple drinks, Xtabi is a great swim and decent snorkeling for the same. I would bet Charlie at Home Sweet Home would be amenable to using the cliffs if you dined/drank there and the snorkeling there is excellent to the left and the right. Joseph's Cave would be great snorkeling also, usually requiring drinks and a usage fee.

Negril Escape is a great place to snorkle, lots of things to see, little caved in the cliffs, and it's deeper in some areas than what you see elsewhere and lots of sea life. Keep in mind, snorkling after a full moon (2 days) seems to bring out the little jellyfish buggers, just be careful. Also don't go in the water immediately after heavy seas, similar things with jellyfish occur. Other than that, it's absolutely amazing snorkling at the cliffs.

that would completely jibe with my experience Joe. Our encounter involved the full moon AND heavy seas

Canoe is indeed a great snorkeling option, with a small reef right out front running over towards the yacht
club. the nice thing about snorkeling here is that the waters are relatively shallow allowing an ''up close 'view as well as a comfort zone for kids and others not ready for really deep water. Snorkeling is always best in the early morning, when the water is most calm and the light is good. Cheers!

There's a new reef forming off the coast of Negril beach, but it's not motor boat accessible. Not the same place where the glass bottom boats go to. Instead, you'll need to take a sea kayak or sail boat to get to it. It's about one click off shore and about another click to the left of the old reef (where the glass boats go). It's very shallow in some places, but it's something to see. Also, sometimes you'll see fishermen out there with spear guns (usually in the morning). They don't like it when you scare their fish away, so go in the afternoon. Enjoy

Thank you all for the tips and advice. Will be going to Half Moon Beach on day and snorkeling is supposed to be okay there. Trip is way to short but the Canoe sounds like a good place to go on Thursday and hang out early afternoon and snorkel. The eat a meal and then catch the Thursday show or at least part of it and head home to Coco.
    Again thanks to all,
If I only had more time I could do it all but then why would I need to come back if I did it all the first time This is planned as a beginning to explore Jamaica trip and not a one time trip!

Some really good suggestions! There are some really good areas to snorkel right off the cliffs but I still highly recommend going out with Vincent or whomever you choose to check out the reefs near Booby Cay. Nice snorkeling for sure. Also, don't forget to check out the reefs at Rhodes Hall. Not much traffic there but that is what makes it so nice when snorkeling. Have a great time!!

Rhodes Hall Plantation is a good option for snorkelling that does not require a boat. However, I always like to recommend Capt. Mike whenever the opportunity presents itself. He and his brother Ricky are very nice and will take good care of you. Just tell them what you think you have in mind and they will steer you in the right direction. Look for the green & yellow boat usually moored close to White Sands. Go from Coco La Palm to the water and look to the left you should see them.
