Lorax2! WHY WHY WHY did you have to show that pic!? lol. It has caused me a mild case of PTSD...OK here is my bat story...it's very embarrasing but ...what the heck.

This happened about 2 years ago. Me and my then husband had rented this really nice house. One of the things I liked most about it was the tall vaulted ceilings in the downstairs and the vaulted ceilings upstairs that had nice cherrywood beams in them. There was an small crawl space that had a lock on it and we never had the key. I asked the landlord if we could have the key as we could use all the storage space that is avaliable. To make a long story short, we never got the key. I always wondered what was in there. Was it a dead hand like on the Adams Family, was it filled with creepy crawlers? I had no idea.
On the top of our cabinets on our kitchen we had decorative thingamajigs such as candle holders, clay pots decorated by American Indains that I got from Arizona, and things like that. Well, one day while watching tv, a pot fell from the top of the cabinet onto the ground and scared the mess out of me. I though, "ok...we did not have an earthquake, what the heck made my clay pot fall?" Ex says with wide eyes....."Uh, Uh maybe it was sitting on the ledge and just fell." I said, "Really, thats your explanation, you're not even going to check and look up there to see? That pot has been there forever in the same place, there is no way it could have moved" So he looks up there and nothing is there. A few other times I could have swore I seen something out the corner of my eye but when I turn around there is nothing there, or sometime I swear I seen a shadow of something. I started to feel this was an eerie house and may have stuff in it that I dont feel comfortable around.
So on another night I was sleep on the couch again(it was towards the end of the relationship and I would'nt get in the bed)...and with barely one eye open BAM! I see a damn BAT in my HOUSE at NIGHT flying from wall to wall going crazy!
"AHHHHHHHH!!!!!Get in here!! Get in here, HELP!!!! HELP!!!!." He runs in the living room, startled from just waking up, and not knowing the danger. I said " a BAT a BAT, in the house, get it, there it is AHHHHHHHHH!!" I run to the corner of the couch and try to hide on the side of it while waving the pillow around over my head like a helicopter so it cant get near me. Mean time "Bruce Leroy" runs and closed all the other door in the house, but openend the front door. He then grabs the broom and starts wailing at the bat. He was literally making karate noises, not sure why, but he swinging the broom knocking stuff over, broke a few things "Hiiiiiiiieeeee-yah! Hi-yah! Hiiiiiieeeee-yah, yah, yah!!!!" I could not help but laugh in my corner on the floor in a ball by the couch, but I was still so scared. Finally he hit the bat like he was in a baseball game and held it down with the broom and told me to hold the bat down while he gets a bucket from the shed. I said "Are you crazy I'm not holding that bat down, I will go in the shed to get the bucket!" So in the middle of the night I am in the backyard in the dark, in my jammies and go into the dark shed I am rushing and knocking stuff over becasue I can't see, and BOOM something metal fell on the bridge of my nose while I was getting the bucket on the top shelf. "Help! I'm injured ! Something fell on my face it hit my nose, but I think I'm ok here I come!" So I run back in and he put the bat in bucket and puts it outside. He takes pictures of it so we can show our landlord. It looked just like the baby one in Lorax2's photos.
He says, "Thats what you get for trying to stay mad and sleep on the couch, get your butt in the bed."
I reply,"OK" but I scooted all the way to the edge.
I have never been the same since, it was traumatizing! OK there is my story,a bat in my house. I wish I could tell a short story but I can't I just can't. I am very detail oriented or have a slight case of OCD, one of them, lol. I cringe at the site/sounds of bats.

T& A - not sure what that sparkle is in the distance. It's the only one visible in the footage - It could very well be venus. I can't remember exactly where the camera was aimed,

Thanks Patty Sather, we've been listening to it at night when we go to bed. The sound of the lapping waves puts us straight into a relaxing slumber.

    Negril soon come!! Can't wait!

Irieluv - OMG! A crazed bat bouncing off the walls in your HOUSE! Now that's terrifying! I'm sure I would have knocked down half the lamps and trinkets from every shelf in our house trying to get away from that flying rodent.

Your description of "The pillow helicopter move" LOL!

I can't believe you guys managed to take it down.

Holy smokes! That would have traumatized me too!

Clarity, yes I am still trembling...but after l listening to the sounds of the waves you posted it calmed me down. There are a few youtube videos of sounds of Negril at night, and you can hear the sounds so clear. It really makes you feel like you are there. Those tree frogs can be a so loud, but soothing at the same time. Along with the sounds of the waves...the sights and sounds of Jamaica are just delightful.(most of them...)

Irie Luv, I'm sorry for causing you to have a reccurence of your bat related PTSD. I highly recommend exposure therapy to help you deal with this problem...Of course this means MANY trips to Jamaica, and staying on the cliffs so you can have more time close to the bats, that way you can get used to them and realize that they won't hurt you...
I am currently in therapy myself...Red Stripe immersion therapy...I'm trying to get over my irrational fear of shortneck bottles of ice cold beer. :-)
