I know it wasn't just about the Red Stripes but by not being overpriced, folks would come and stay awhile. Often a mix of tourist & local. And nobody puttin' on airs because they could afford some fancy drink with an umbrella in it. The place had it's regulars and good times were had (mostly at the old bar - haven't spent as much time there lately). Maybe that too has changed with the new construction - but it seemed the logical choice for those who want to carry on without major relocation...

$300 is still a reasoable price for a beer at a bar! Aqua seemed to have no problem keeping there bar going and there were not any cheap drinks there. Like some one said its not all about cheap drinks.
Trip #59 most of February
Okay, I'll play...I'm pretty sure I have a clue as I hung out there all year long for quite a few years & for probably a similar reason, Misti...the suggestion of Sun Beach is made only since we can no longer go to the For Real bar & many people that hung out at For Real are now there (sadly not Maureen & Robert)...the beer priced is mentioned because many also stopped by there for the cheap beer...which was advertised daily on the beach as lower priced & one of the many reasons that you "couldn't get a seat at my own bar".
Absolutely...300J is not unusual...Aqua had mix of high end & lower priced drinks...atmosphere CAN be everything!!!
Wow bummer. Having the tree in the bar made it unique. Also too bad about the price of Red Stripe - used to be one of the cheapest places on the beach!

Thank you. You made my point - and as usual, better than I could have.![]()
Actually for me the price of the Red Stripe is irrelevant 'cuz I don't drink them much - it's more about the people.
Looks nice.
Well - I will give the new Sandy Haven bar a try - because it's in my 'hood. I predict it will be busy next winter.
However, I did go to Sun Beach quite a bit last trip - and I like the place - not For Real though.
From what I heard, the old bar, tree included, had to go because they were both ready to fall down and the old tree was infested with some kind of bugs.
One more thought on the For Real bar - it was located in a 'special spot' - a nexus where karmic force fields merge - it was like that when it was Dr. Bills too. It's just a special spot where possibilities are amplified - intersections occur, things happen - people are happy.
I wish I coulda got my hands on the flamingo that used to sit on top of the bar
Sea Splash is a cool place to hang out too, if you can get by the crappy playlist they have there.

That sure was a beautiful description of the vibe there.
