    Public transportation availability question

Is there a public transport like a bus or van similar to a collectivo in Mexico that runs east and west on the main highway say from the cliffs area to the Bloody bay area. If so what does it look like an what is the cost compared to a taxi that I know if available. From reading it appears the official taxi's have a red tag is that correct.
Basically if you are not renting a car what is the best way to get around to places that are a long walk but a short ride from where we are staying at Coco La Palm. For the close places we will just walk but something like Canoe I figure would be a pretty long walk.

Kulaks, There is a goldmine of info on "Route taxi" on Negril.com. Just do a search. They are amazingly efficient and convenient when you get the hang of them. If this is your first time maybe find a driver at the hotel that you are comfortable with and stay with him till you get familiar.

Negril does not have a "mass transit" system yet - but any of the legal taxis (red licensed plated vehicles) are able to transport you. For most of your needs, as Dash mentioned, just find a driver at your resort to take you places. Also, you can contact any of the drivers listed in our Transportation section. Just click on the link above!

Thanks Rob, we are actually using Rocky on your list for airport to Negril RT transport and chose him from reading. It will be nice to meet him next Sat and on the drive over he will probably be able to answer many of my questions. I just figured he his more into tours and airport transfers and not just short point a to point b transportation. I didn't know the hotel will have a driver kind of dedicated to the hotel. If they do I will use him to start with as Dash and you both have suggested.
Thanks as always for answering my newbie questions.

What are the legs exactly. From reading it appears from about mid long beach (seven mile) to the roundabout would be one leg. From roundabout to cliffs would be another leg. If reading archives correctly it is "about 100j per leg per person" in daylight hours. Is that correct?

Yep, $100J per leg. If I want to go cliff to beach or vise versa I offer up $500J for my wife and I and have never been turned down. $200J for each of us and $100J for not making us get out at the round about and continuing on. Tip accordingly and tell the driver to pick up others along the way.

Anywhere on the West End without veering off the main road and anywhere along the beach to the roundabout.
    Example:
Catcha Falling Star on the West End to roundabout= 1 leg
roundabout to Country Country= 1 leg

Thank booger, so I assume that from anywhere on 7 mile beach to the cliffs would be two legs and from anywhere on 7 mile to Green Island area would be two legs. Is that correct?
