Big day: Spear gun just arrived by special delivery

OK, I so enjoyed spearfishing on my last reach that I have bought my own spear gun -- pimped out high-tech model, this thing can kill a Great White -- so who wants to go spearfishing in April?

Marcus? I will try to bring it to the boardie bash so if we're so inclined, we can snorkel out and get a big one.

Funnest thing I ever did. Takes fishing and snorkeling to whole new level!

Good luck! What is the biggest sea critter you have ever seen in the waters of Negril? Other than some 36" Baracudda and some large rays, my experience has only been small fish / squid etc.

I just read an article about the blood from spearfishing attracting surrounding sharks.

So no... Markus will NOT be spearfishing. lol
He'll have to get by me first!

I guess a manta is the biggest I've seen. The barracuda are like six feet, but I don't think I want to mess with those bad boys.

I like using the old school pole spears that are just like a long light shaft (3 feet maybe) with a thick elastic tubing that you use sort of like shooting a rubber band to propel it through the water. Now that takes skill. I learned how to use those when snorkeling in Hawaii way back when I was a fearless teen. Me and my boyfriend ran out of money on a long stay on the big island and lived off the fish we caught and the fruit, macadamia nuts and coconuts that we collected. Snorkeling there was amazing--and plenty of sharks, too. Mainly tiger sharks where the ocean floor would drop. The fish we caught were little guys in the reefs. Anhow, I digress-- it just brought back survival memories from back in the day. It will be interesting to hear how it goes in Negril with the new gun. I hope you post your Catch of the Day.

I used that last time, but my friends had the big guns and caught a lot more stuff. I am taking it up a notch this trip!
