If you were going to stay for 3 months or more, WHERE? How much would you budget?

Next to going to Jamaica, one of my favorite things is planning to go to Jamaica...someday for a lot more than 2 weeks at a time. And I bet I'm not alone in that. I'd love to hear what other folks have in mind on that subject. You never know what idea could blossom into a wonderful reality.

    Peace.

So true SS, this is my 3rd winter here.

Budget depends on what you do with your time, if you are a big drinker or want to go out a lot. First year I over-budgeted for taxis, and rarely used them, found myself enjoying time at 'home' more than I thought I would.

What some folks spend on 1-2 weeks vacation, would cover me 2-3 months.

Send me a pm with your email for more discussion.

Well, next spring I get to find out, because I will be staying for Feb, March, and April..also will be the first time I will ever be in Negril for peak season, but it's the soonest I can get back to Negril after my August trip, and I don't feel like waiting until next May if I don't have to, lol!

I will be in Negril from August 10th to 26th, and the first 8days will be with a Negril virgin and old friend from Jr high, but when she leaves, will be spending my next eight days scoping out where I will be making my three month stay, so when I am done looking at the places will post here about what I have found and what might interest anyone else looking at a longer term too. When do you plan on making your months long stay? If mine goes well, I plan on making the move a permanent one too.

Thanks - I know I can live much cheaper than most folks. I am not the $100 a day, every day kind of traveler. Right now I am working on a 5 year plan but in the interim will try to squeeze in a few longer stays, otherwise I will have to content myself with 2 weeks at a time. Currently I stay with someone up in the hills, about 25 min away from the beach which in itself is not bad but for longer term I don't know if that is how I want to go. It is nice to have your own space.

Please feel free to share ideas, suggestions, comments - it is all welcome and part of the learning experience.

    Peace.

p.s. Lola - I tried to PM you but that feature does not seem to be on for you. If you pm me, I will respond.

Damn Negrilaholic Aug. is to late to help me. I arrive in Negril the end of May and only have a place to stay until June 2nd. I plan on staying all of June and was hoping to get some ideas of cheap places to stay on here. The cheaper the place to longer I can stay. At this point I don't have a return flight and don't plan on booking one until I decide to leave. Maybe I will have to do the research for u. My hope is to make some friends while in Jamaica and be able to stay with a family in the hills. If not that just get a real cheap room, I really need next to nothing but a bed and a place to bath.

Lola - Where do u stay? U have a house or stay with friends? Sounds like I am like u. I can spend very little compared to others and still have just as much fun.

Well when I stayed at Summerset Village was pretty happy, and they do have some great long term rates too..only reason I will be scoping other places too on my next visit is I just want to leave all my options open, you know?

To tell you the truth - staying with new found friends up in the hills can end up costing you more than staying in a guest house or hotel. Some folks concept of budget isn't necessarily the same as us travelers. I speak from experience, I have been stay "local" for a while and some folks just don't seem to understand that the funds are not unlimited or must be portioned out to last longer. Feelings can get hurt or they can perceive you as being cheap. For a longer term stay you could try Green Leaf Cabin on the boulevard across from Coco LaPalm. Reasonable rates with a variety of options and you can get a break for long term stay. Call Jenny James @ 876-957-4677 or 876-429-6438.

Green Leaf is my back up plan. Cheap, clean & reasonable. I consider Jenny a friend and visit her whenever I come down. But I still want to consider other options for long term stay, maybe a little more private or off the beaten path.

    Peace.

Thanks Sue. Checked Green Leaf out and sounds like what I am looking for. Cheap but close to the beach. And thanks for the advise on staying with someone. What u said makes sense from what I know about the Jamaican people. I may still give it a try but for only a week or so. Maybe we will run into each other at Green Leaf.

no, I don't stay with friends, I rent.

rickejm I wonder if you might like New Moon Cottages, they are across from Blue Horizon West/Home Sweet Home (I may have that one wrong), I think this is before you get to Blue Cave Castle. Anyway, they are shared central kitchen/sitting area, and 5-6 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Two of the rooms are on the 2nd floor, so more private.

Sue, got it and will reply.
