If you're going to run a laptop there, I would suggest bringing a good surge protector with you. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the electrical outlets in the room that fried the cord. It would be working fine, then go to battery power (while still plugged in). Then I'd switch outlets and fine again for about 10-20 minutes then go to battery. I kept doing musical outlets until finally poof, the cord was done. I suppose I should have been smart and just stopped using it as soon as I knew there was a problem with the outlets. Oh well. So it goes.
