    Digicel or Claro

Does either of them have the hot spot thingamajig? My tablet needs the signal almost in it to really work well. And I need to be able to get to Elmo and Super Why at a moments notice.

Digicel bought Claro, so Claro is no more. I use the Digicel 3G (old Claro system) although they call it a 4G - it is not really a 4G signal. I am not sure that they are selling that service yet - they seem to provide it only for the existing Claro customers.

Digicel sells a MiFi hotspot modem thingy - conditions apply and it it limited to 5 users and it would cost you about ja$10,000 for the modem. Here is a link to the Digicel Broadband service:

I have an unlocked dual band cell phone. 850 - 1900. Worked on Claro last trip. Is there another company selling cards and minutes on that frequency?

Digicel also has a USB type modem good for one user, laptop, outside use recommended although in Negril it may not be an issue. Costs about 3000 JD, plus data.

Can't you save some Elmo or such type content on a USB 4 or 8GB stick or your tablet and avoid the need to use WiFi/Internet to entertain the little man?

Delta - my son is an uber geek - at least he gets paid enough for what he does, so I guess he is. I'll ask him to be sure but I think if you save a file (movie, etc.) onto your computer, you should be able to then send that file to a USB stick, as long as it is able to hold enough data to accept the file or depending on the size of your tablet's memory, send it directly to the tablet.

I am sure there must be some savvy folks that could tell you better than me.

    Good Luck!

Are you planning on streaming video from PBS online or using netflix? The reason I ask is because you cannot watch netflix in Jamaica because the content is only available in the US. I'm not sure if PBS kids is like netflix, but wouldn't be surprised if was.

We took a portable dvd player for our little guy last trip. It was a bit of a pain to lug it and a binder of dvds around, but well worth it, especially in the airport/airplane.

I was gonna do a youtube thing. I can find full episodes. I think I'm gonna tape them from the tv (on demand has it all), transfer what i tape to my laptop then transfer that to my tablet. If anyone has an easier way I'm all for it!!
    Happy holiday family time!
