Wednesday on the rock, and the return of...

Wednesday started, unfortunately, again with Debbie getting a migraine during the night. More meds, and a slow start to the day. We think this is a long term problem that mostly stemmed from her car accident a half year ago. So we don't get really going until after 10. Nothing on our schedule, so no great loss. We brought our snorkeling equipment, and that hasn't even been out of the cottage yet. Thinking that some floating and stretching may help.

So I have coffee and bun and cheese waiting for her, with papaya and mango ready to be cut up. Nice relaxing breakfast (relaxing being the key word here!) and then a stroll down to the beach. Kind of overcast, but still nice.

Jet skis and boats are all coming closer to the beach this year. Not only a hazard for those swimming, but it really roils up the bottom, and the water isn't as clear as it has been. While we're out stretching and getting mellow, boats and skis around us. Nothing like the smell of a two cycle engine in the morning. I have heard that the tourist board is trying to help with the situation, but nothing works if it isn't enforced.

So the day is pretty mellow, until the “Naturist Musician” previews his new song about Firefly, and starts production of the video to accompany it. There's some filming going on, and nothing too intrusive.

People still at the bar for breakfasts. Maxine cooking and pancakes and omelets looking good. Not many people ordering Debbie's Vermont Pancakes. Made with whole wheat and stuff. Better than those white marshmallow things, but alas, no Vermont maple syrup this time. Couldn't fit it in the luggage, and not a great supply this year with the strange spring we're having.

Later in the day we head downtown for dinner. Just the two of us. Amazing.

This is the moment many have been waiting for- THE RETURN OF THE DIRTY RAG GUY!

So we're parked by the motorcycle taxi stand, car nose in, and getting a cup of chicken foot soup from the cart there. Charges us an extra 50J 'cause we're not locals. As I'm getting the cup, Debbie notices our wipers are propped up. Sure enough, a guy going over our windshield with his greasy, dirty rag! I keep my temper, but tell him to get away from the car. When he tries to give me a line about this being his job... No- you're messing with my car. No, you don't have my permission. No, I'm not paying you to mess up my car. No, you're not helping. He finally figures out that he's hit a brick wall with any arguments, and leaves. Amazingly, others nodding their heads in approval. The chicken foot soup, by the way, is good.

Then over to the soup cart by Devon House Ice Cream. All the time looking back to see that the car isn't being messed with. This cart owner starts apologizing that he didn't make chicken foot today, but cow skin. We almost jump for joy. One of our all time favorites! He's shocked that we've even heard of it, and amazed that we like it so much. 100J for the cup we share. Thick broth, lots of thyme, amazing good flavor. Get past the name- they use the shreds of beef inside the skin and cook some pieces of the skin until it forms a more dense soup, and use lots of veggies and dumplings in it. Nice.

Up to Chicken Lavish for what we hope are smaller portions. Goat finished, so we have chicken curry and kingfish in brown stew. Portions still large, but great flavor. After we're across the street to Swordfish restaurant. Saw the sign for ice cream, and looking for bread or rice pudding. None, but sweet potato pie is available. One cup of rum raisin and a small piece of sweet potato. We vow to return. This place I remember from many years past that Pirate tried to run a restaurant out of. And although we had some good times getting together there, he couldn't make it last. Too bad, but the owners have opened up their own restaurant finally, and it looks great. Bar upstairs, kitchen down. Dining over the sea. I hope it makes it.

Back to the cottage, trying to get Debbie better rest for tomorrow.
