Saturday is leaving day. A sad event.
Packed most everything last night, so we can be more leisurely this morning. After using up most of the food for breakfast, down to the shore. Snorkeling equipment packed, so we can just catch the last sun and sea. No, no orange juice today. No, no bananas/papayas/pineapples today. No, no bracelets/rings/necklaces/hats today. Sad day.
About 10ish, up to the cottage for the final packing, and getting into- what are these things?- long pants and shirts? And socks? And shoes? Doesn’t feel right. Nope, not at all!
We leave about 11 for our 2:50 flight. Good thing we give ourselves extra time. Have to stop in Hopewell to fill the tank, and then drop Debbie and luggage at the United desk, and take the car to the rental return. That goes fast. The only damage is patty flakes and sand on the floor. Paperwork done, I walk over to the departures terminal and see the immigration line. Like forever! Debbie is at the head of the line, so we do the usual battle over luggage charges. There are none, since we booked last May.
The immigration and security line is long, but actually goes pretty fast. From check-in to getting into the departure area is about 45 minutes. Not terrible. Up to Sunshine Liquors for my usual case of Cocomania liters. It gets boxed securely so I can check it as my piece of luggage. Margaritaville for lunch. Beer comes fast, lunch very slow. I have to leave to get the case of booze, and Debbie stays to box it up and pay the tab. By the time I’m back to the gate with rum, they’re almost ready to start loading. Scarf down the burger and fries, and to the gate.
Plane has more room for legs in cattle class, and flight is on time into Newark. While in a long immigration line in the airport, Debbie sms’s our son we’re back on USA soil. After about an hour of lines and customs and transportation, we’re at the hotel and they’re getting our car. Once loaded, on the road north to our overnight in Ramsey, NJ, on the way to Vermont.
Last year our son broke his back while we were in Jamaica. We left instructions to stay safe this trip. THAT didn’t work. On the way up he calls and lets us know that riding his bike back from work (as a medical researcher) he was hit by a car, and has a broken bone, dislocated shoulder, various bruises and road rash and destroyed cycling equipment…
Hope your trips end better than that!
Pictures in a few days.
