I just read a report that Sandy Haven has a sign posted off the road that no outside food or drink is allowed. Have others seen that? That's putting a nail in their coffin IMO. Groupon buyers would not be pleased if that's the case. I'm assuming that food & drinks on property are expensive. One could always spend their days off property, or if you want to stay and enjoy your surroundings, PAY for it.

    I almost purchased that - glad I didn't now.
    That's definitely a turn-off.
Most people are going to want to at least bring liquor.

    Melody,

As I know you have been asked by one of my employees, I need to please ask you to refrain from posting the nonsense you read on other sites as they do not confirm the information posted on their sites. Negril.com attempts to take the time to confirm the information posted to verify its accuracy and that includes this thread.

    For All,

THERE IS NO SIGN WHATSOEVER AT SANDY HAVEN REGARDING FOOD OR DRINKS ALLOWED ON THEIR PROPERTY. Please disregard the posting made by Melody as her second hand information is inaccurate. The sign referred to is on the property next door at Sun Beach. And in all honesty - that is not an unusual request. When any business establishment sells both food and drinks, it is more often than not proper to purchase the food and drink at that property.

I just spoke with the new owners of Sandy Haven. They are shocked and confused by the Groupon inquiries that they have been receiving regarding a policy that they do not have in place. They are a new business and the re-posting of second hand "information" that is incorrect is not in any possible way helping anyone.

Melody - if you would be so kind, please post on the site where you read this incorrect information and let others know that this is incorrect.

    Thank you for listening.... (grin)

I apologize, I am not trying to spread incorrect information, nor did I state that what I read was confirmed. My intention was simply to raise the possibility so that people could seek to confirm for themselves, if this policy, or lack of, would be a concern for them. However, potential Groupon purchasers can now read this question plainly answered in the Groupon Q & A.

If there is no such policy, the owners should be made aware that the person who is answering on their behalf, on the Groupon site, is also giving incorrect information regarding this subject. I won't repeat or copy what is written on the Groupon site.

Again, I apologize for unintentionally breaking the forum rules and will refrain from posting anything in the future that is not first hand knowledge.

    Hey Rob,
I am the one that provided Melody the info as I had heard it before and noticed a sign on my walk last week, therefore it prompted me to inform her. If I remember correct it was on the right hand side of the entrance to Sandy Haven from the road side, not the beach. It was a wooden sign attached to a pole.

As far as "When any business establishment sells both food and drinks, it is more often than not proper to purchase the food and drink at that property." Really? What is so improper about using the provided fridge in most hotels to store and consume your offsite purchases? I have only stayed in 3 places in Negril, all of which had fridges, and all of which had other guest using them for their outside purchases. It's not a matter of proper for the hotel, it's a matter of revenue.

    Booger,

Yes, your information is incorrect and yes, there is a sign on the right hand side of the Sandy Haven property - ON THE FAR RIGHT HAND SIDE ON THE POLE ON THE NEXT DOOR PROPERTY. You are mistaken in what you thought you saw.

There is nothing improper about the next door property informing people that there is no food or drinks allowed. All that the property next door, Sun Beach, sells is food and drinks. That is their proper right as a business to not allow those that are not paying customers to not use their facilities.

I am not sure what your "fridge" comment has to do with anything. There is no sign that you somehow think there is, there is no policy against what you think there is, and as far as I know, other than a mini bar, I am not aware of any kitchen facilities/fridge in any of the rooms at Sandy Haven.

And as for any business, without revenue, any business would not exist.
