Talking Newbie to the Negril Forum :)

    Hi!

I have been reading many of the posts on here and you guys are a super cool bunch!

I am going on my 3rd trip to Jamaica, July 18 - 25th, with my home-girl, Liz (her 2nd time), and was wondering where the best place was to stay? I did AIs twice and talked her out of it this time since we spent the last vaca ruminating over the fact we are basically paying a crap load of money to sun our boobies and eat breakfast (we barely even drink!). I have family out there in case of emergency and a family friend I hang out with, so finding untouristy things to do is not the problem. We are having problems trying to decide on a place and she is letting me have the final say (I am the type that constantly second guesses these types of things. I swear this is a trap).

I want to stay on the cliffs for at least half of my stay and maybe somewhere on the beach the last 2 - 3 nights. We have checked out Catcha Falling Star (I read Clarity/Hubby Man/Jamar's reviews), Rockhouse, Blue Cave Castle, and Home Sweet Home for stays on the Cliffs and Sandy Haven, maybe Merril's or Yellow tail if we stay on the beach for a few days. We aren't really against staying at the cliffs the whole time. Liz is just worried that our klutzy asses may not make it back in one piece with the whole jumping off cliffs and climbing wet steps. I have no fear, but then, I have had 3 knee surgeries in under 10 years, so maybe I should...

Please feel free to offer any advice on where to stay. Oh and how do I post a profile pic? I hate looking like some odd, faceless, shapeless thingie

    Happy Sunday!

A few years old. Mid beach. Studios have little kitchenette. $10.00 breakfast on property. Very Mediterranean, each room has patio, 20 some rooms, steps from water, nice neighbors - Tony's - Niah - Mason the carver - Boar Bar - Rondel

I have won many awards in a lifetime of competition and service. But the highest was offered without plaque or fanfare on a hilltop in post Ivan Jamaica. A true Rasta and a dear friend observed "Chet you are like a father of men, you see need and fulfill that need without being asked". Let us be travelers and not tourist.

Can't go wrong with Catcha... Haven't been yet, but I have no doubt (and I usually doubt everything) that I am staying at the place I am supposed to be!!! Good luck!

we split between seastar and seasplash as i tell people who ask which do you like best cliffs or beach, Both! You sure get the personal touch at both Seasplash and Seastar. My friend stays at Wild Parrot, and we hung out there, it has good vibe and beach too. Cheers!

There is no sand in front of Mariposa for laying out on a chair. Eroded up to the very front of the restaurant.

Judging by your list it's mostly going to come down to price, amenities, location and availability.

A long list of strange events (hmmmmm, imagine that...) took me to Catcha Falling Star for the last two night of this past reach. Been there before and loved it but never stayed. Now I've stayed. Now I'm trying to figure out if I can ever stay anywhere else. There are great places in Negril and your list for the cliffs is good. I would also add Xtabi as it has a wide range of accommodations, incredible location and great staff. Having said that, if your budget fits Catcha and they have an available room, GO, you'll never regret it.
