Can't find decent airfare out of Florida

If you are going to wait it might be a long, long time. Airlines have greatly reduced capacity and air fares are absurdly high. Ridiculous.

You just need to be vigilant in your searching. Better fares are out there. I spent five months of searching every day on flights out of Lit.
About 6 weeks before our vacation Delta lowered fares $300 a ticket, but the fares were only posted for 1 day. I had already decided to drive to Memphis
to take advantage of lower fares from there.
I did notice that Jetblue was offering fares less than 400 from Mco if you were willing to travel midweek.
