Cool Sweetness Trip Report April 2012 - Blue Mahoe (@ the Spa)

This was a bittersweet night. I have always wanted to see this property and after hearing good things about the restaraunt The Blue Mahoe, I decided I must do it. It was hard to make it happen - the family of friends were getting together and I just met Katho and Daisy/Markus and had to beg off and say I had dinner plans.

I am glad I went. I teared up as soon as I went thru the entrance. I used to practically live on this property when it was Heartbeat. It is not even recognizable which made it easier in a way. But at the sea side - that exact view (entire beachline to the right and gorgeous West End cliffs to the left with the moonshine on the wata) choked me up. I was greated at the gate by one of the owners Christine and she graciously seated me and visited. The service was top notch. I had met one of the chef's at DeBar and alerted him I was coming and was looking for some yummy escovitch. I got to talk with him - he has one of those bright Jamaican smiles. Excellent chef and sweet sweet guy. The floor in front of the spotless stainless steel open kitchen area is inlaid with native blue mahoe wood. I have an affection for wood and all things natural so I was deeply impressed with its beauty. The prices were a bit high for me but not out of range for this level of a property. I think I spent about $30US including dinner, glass of wine and tip. This was my one splurge dinner this trip - rest of the time I had tuna and water crackers or jerk box dinners.

I had the coconut shrimp appetizer (at Daisy/Markus' suggestion) and it was outstanding with an orange ginger dipping sauce. My snapper escovitch with veg was good. Christine was kind enough to give me a tour around the beautiful planted beds and even the bridal suite. Lovely property but not enough privacy for me (even if I could afford the rates). They are almost finished with the massage area. Lots of cedar and everything is built strong strong and simple but beautiful. I am glad I went but it made me sad.

Change sucks, I'm very opposed to it! *hugs*

The food looks wonderful though!! I may eat there someday but I don't think I'd be comfortable staying somewhere so "shiny" even if I could afford it, lol!
