I should add .. I've done a side-by-side taste test between the Appleton's 12 and 21 ..... and I like the 12 better .... is smoother - maybe I'm just not accustomed to too much oak.

Also keep in mind if you are buying it to bring back, you'll need to pack it so be luggage weight conscious but if you buy it duty free you're past security so as long as you are landing in your home town on the return flight and not doing a layover it can be a "Carry On" all the way home.

I paid $24 at the airport for a liter of 12 year a couple of months ago..I get the liter instead of the 750..the more the merrier..lol
I bought a bottle of 21 at a wedding in Montego bay last June and it was great prefered it over the 12 but if considering price probably a wash.
I know exactly where you are talking about. Go into the plaza, walk straight up, go up the 3 steps and you will see two shops side by side with sun dresses hanging up outside the one on the left, the one on the right has the duty free liqour. (although I think both are under same ownership.) Always gave me good price and good rate of exchange for USD also.
I think as you get into the higher end rums the prices get more similar between Jamaica and abroad. We bought a bottle of 30yr old Master Blenders Legacy in Jamaica and found it for virtually the same price home in Canada. Not sure if its the same in the USA or elsewhere.

We had a bottle of the 21 yr old a few years ago and it was wonderful. We keep the 12 yr old around for special occasions, but we rely on the VX for every day sipping.
Hi Jar. I will sip a little Maker's from time to time. Acutally one of the reasons that I started drinking Appletons is that it sips like good bourbon. Tomorrow being Derby Day I'll probably be having Maker's but I won't be ruining it with that Mint Julep stuff.
