Re: Board History - some questions for our Rob!

It must have been around 1998 when I first started reading Rob's board, researching the goings on of Negril. It has been and continues to be a valuable tool to learn about people and places in Jamaica, Negril in particular

    thanks Rob!

It wasn't about anything that Rob was doing or what he stood for but it was more about "me" and my envious desire to be more like Rob or perhaps even better.

Over the past decade or so, I think our mutual desire to help Jamaica has brought us closer and my envy of Rob's living in Jamaica has turned to Nuff Respect! I am now living "most" of the time in Jamaica and now have a greater appreciation for just how difficult a job Rob has had to finally achieve the recognition he richly deserves.

There have been many others who battled with Rob over how he ran the board and were (like me) obviously envious of just how well and persistantly he made it work. A lot of them (old timers know the names) have left the board in a huff; some attempting fruitlessly to duplicate his accomplishment and others suss about Rob on these forums in a desperate attempt to step over him to some illusion of being an "expert on Jamaica".

One just doesn't know how hard a road one travels until they walk a mile in his shoes!

I think Rob is a classy individual that deserves what his efforts have reaped. I don't post a whole lot now as my focus is no longer about Negril but rather my home in the Cockpits in Accompong Town St. Elizabeth. Whenever I do make it to Negril, I know I have a friend who lives and works there.

    Nuff Respect.
WOW...Accompong...just saw this...quite humbling...you sound pretty classy yourself!!

As someone that knows how difficult it can be to actually own & operate a business to success...I've also had the opportunity to watch someone successfully do this in a foreign country.
You really, really have to have an incredible intelligence, a strength that can easily be misunderstood, a tough & sensitive side that often has to be played out all at the same time. I know this is true for owners of most businesses...but even more difficult in a country that you were not born & raised...there's a few success stories but sadly there's an incredible amount of failures...nope it's not easy!

I found this board relatively late...2004...& had met up with "my group" of wonderful boardies for a couple of years each December...but with anything...time changes everything & the group has moved on!
Now living here (still don't know how that happened ) I've had the opportunity to see everything from the inside out & have an incredible appreciation for the hard work & believe it or not the patience that Rob exudes. "One just doesn't know how hard a road one travels until they walk a mile in his shoes!"...how very true!!!

I may be considered biased...but having run my own business & having been in that same business for 25 years...I also know when someone is simply doing great at a tough job!!
