Mr. X Does Negril (2010) with No Reservations
Chapter 30 – am at BarBBarn
September 7th, 2010 – Tuesday – (Day 4)
I had joked about coffee enough at the bar day before. I know who made the coffee, what time it would be ready (7am) and exactly where to find it. Girl who did it got up early like 5am had a long commute (more than an hour) and would still be here to have it ready at 7am. Ok I will be here waiting on you.
Apparently I slept like a rock.
Finally woke up.
Wow got to be 11am or maybe even 12noon. Hot already.
Cannot believe our friends did not come wake us up. Well I guess I can believe that.
Throw on my semi-formal attire. Bathing suit dry hanging in bathroom and clean shirt. Flip flops. Ready. Head downstairs. Which puts me at the bar and 50 feet from the water.
Nobody around.
Dead.
Sleeping my vacation away.
I guess it is the break between breakfast and lunch.
Who knows who cares.
Self-serve on the coffee. Pour. Mix in my crème and lots of brown sugar. Drink. Good coffee. Nice.

View when I go out my door.
Go by bar with my coffee and see my girl (bartender) looks up “Hey what happen you sleep in Mr. Big Talker?”
“Yeah, I was up late at Bourbon Beach and wife made me keep blinds shut. Cannot believe I slept this late. What time is it anyway?
She looks at her watch and in that real official sounding British Jamaican she says “It is one quarter past 7 in the morning”
Whatever.
I swim
Float

Thanks and praise
Drink coffee. Good coffee
Float
Thanks and praise
Room and all my stuff and the water are so close together.
Don’t remember ever being this close to the water on the beach
Hardly anybody out
Lol. I got the jump on the hustlers
“Hey somebody try to sell me something”
I guess I better not yell that too loud
I want to heckle somebody from Bourbon Beach but it looks dead. Shabba told me last night that he took the fence down after the show. So if the show ended at 1am or 4am he takes the fence down afterwards. Now I know taking down is easier and faster than the 3 hours to put it up but still a lot of work especially solo. Trust me on this one. Sure enough it is down and gone. No traces of a fence with blue tarp over it having disappeared overnight.
With James Brown gone Shabba has to be the hardest working man in show business.
Always surprises me how Jamaicans seem to recognize you (me) on the beach. I got my usual floating thing going on with just my chest and arms on float and rest of me in the water. I got full view of beach. I see about 8 different people hanging out over the properties in my immediate vision. I am only tourist in view and I am on my float and been here for 2 days so they are rightly ignoring me. Anytime somebody new pops up I can see their reaction. Every 10 minutes a new vendor or passerby comes into vision. Everybody gives a slight glance and see it’s not a tourist and back to what they are doing.
I guess it’s not that hard to recognize people after all.
I see a guy pop out from BarBBarn.
A big muscular black guy looks like he use to play linebacker in the NFL about 20 years ago.
None of the vendors even look at him. I notice something is not right. He is not moving like an athlete. He is walking jerky like a weight lifter. He is wearing shorts but long black socks to the beach.
I bet people call him Big Urkle.
Damn I hope he is from the UK or Canada and not the US.
What does he do?
First thing he goes to first table and starts looking at Bracelets.
This causes a stampede when everybody realizes this guy is not Jamaican and is a goofy tourist. Damn I spotted him a good 15 seconds as a tourist before all these professionals. Lol its only cause he was black that they let him get that far without noticing.
They are on his ass.
He doesn’t know how to say no.
Damn dude first time out?
Now they know he is a tourist they are even tougher on him.
Come on we are “brothers” they are telling him.
Brother!
Hey my Brother!!!
He quickly runs back on BarBBarn property and dissappears from sight. A 250 pound man. Another couple of minutes and I might have had to go rescue my fellow tourist. Too funny.
Finally wife and later friends come down.
Like they are on vacation.
My friend has to get up early 6 days a week.
Can understand him sleeping late on vacation but my wife and his wife.
Anyhow it has worked out great for me.
Food, drinks, ocean, beach, and lots of good coffee. Thanks and Praise.
Don’t care how long they sleep. Water is so calm don’t have any problem at all swimming or floating alone. Practically float in 1 foot of water. So relaxing. Don’t have to worry about getting sunburned at 8am.
Breakfast at BarBBarn (of course I had the Jamaican special with Ackee and Salt fish). Also a big fruit place. Excellent. Different than same thing at Seastar Inn but excellent as well.
Nice we were practically only people at hotel. Few locals, owner family types. Everybody very nice. Low key. Driver (Mark) introduced himself and gave us his card. Seemed like a good guy.
Could leave our food and coffee, walk to water, eat more etc.
Btw food was reasonable priced considering location (on the beach).
