Can I rent an air card or modem for internet access?

Even though the weather is nice in Wisconsin right now - I am planning for our New Years trip already! Due to a job change we MUST have reliable internet access this year and I remember someone telling me they had a digicel modem and/or air card last year? I would appreciate if someone could tell me how that works and what the best way to do it would be as we can't rely on the hotel internet this time. We would be willing to buy the phone or whatever is needed if that is the only way to do it. As you can tell, we are not techies to make the understatement of the year

Yes. Digi has a modem and I think they also have a UBS one (not sure though). I was using Claro but Digi bought them out and my hotel had YiFi so I didn't need one last trip. I am sure that there are people on here who will know for sure and am surprised that no one has answered you as yet.

I suspect I haven't had alot of feedback because not many people care about the WIFI while there I know I never did until this year when my husband must be available for his job - which he needs to keep so I can keep coming back

I can fill you in on the details during/after my upcoming trip (leaving Monday 6/11). I always had free wifi at my hotel but they - unwisely - went to an expensive per week system. I'll be getting the Digicel USB set up for my summer stay.

BTW... this really isn't my first post. I've been on N.com since almost day one but my computer messed up somehow & my password no longer worked & restoring it also didn't work. Got no help so I have a new name.

Not trying to hijack the thread....

So the Beach Club (Mariners) now has fee based Wifi? And if so, do you know if the Condos office has free wifi?

Back on topic, I do remember Rob replying to someone's question about the Digicel wifi, and if I recall he had good things to say about it.

I also see a post from you on that thread too Yvonne. We will be staying with Jean in the condos in July. So if you see a white couple with a crazy little (brown) 5 year old pickney say high.

    Plongdin,

Not being techies, this is can be a bit complicated. It depends on where you are staying. There is 4G access from Digicel, but that has limited coverage areas. The Claro option is now unavailable, only pre-existing Claro clients have access to the old 3G network. They are not accepting new subscribers at this point.

If you can say where you are staying, I would be able to provide you more detailed information. There may be a decent existing wifi at the hotel.

Here is the link to the Digicel direct information in case you would like to check out some basic prices:

    Yvonne,

Sorry to hear you had problems.

I did not receive any email from you asking for help. When you have any problems, the forum/board software suggests that you contact me. I could have easily reset your password. It only takes a few seconds.

Rob... I did send an e-mail but got no response. I may not have had the correct e-mail address to get it sent directly to you. I tried!! Think I know the log out problem too. I was almost finished w/ typing my post here earlier when a brown out wiped out all I'd written. (Probably 2 words short of being finished.) Ran an errand & came back. I was logged out even though I'm supposed to be remembered. Lots of brown outs lately & I had to log in to a shopping site I sometimes use. Other sites... not affected. Anyway, if you could restore my Yvonne board name & delete this one (use the same password), I'd appreciate it. ykreedfla@aol.com I can probably still use Yvonne on my netbook since I pretty much only use it in Negril & the name & password are saved. Now I'm afraid it'll be totally messed up.

Back to the wifi @ the Beach Club. No more free wifi in the lobby... $34 a week but it works in your room. Too pricey for a long stay like I do. The Condos still have free wifi at the office. I used that in February but prefer not to in the summer... humid, bugs, etc. I've been spoiled by sitting on the sofa under the ceiling fan in the lobby. Now I'll be more spoiled by being able to have wifi in my room. I'm out of here @ 5:15 Monday a.m. (for a 9 a.m. flight, live 20 minutes from the airport).
