Too pricey, period, is right. That's why I sat outside for 2 weeks. Looking forward to being spoiled by access in my room. See you in July. Ask Jean or Deandra at NBCC who I am.

    Rob... I'm back in!

Not trying to hijack the thread....

So the Beach Club (Mariners) now has fee based Wifi? And if so, do you know if the Condos office has free wifi?

Back on topic, I do remember Rob replying to someone's question about the Digicel wifi, and if I recall he had good things to say about it.

    Plongdin,

Not being techies, this is can be a bit complicated. It depends on where you are staying. There is 4G access from Digicel, but that has limited coverage areas. The Claro option is now unavailable, only pre-existing Claro clients have access to the old 3G network. They are not accepting new subscribers at this point.

If you can say where you are staying, I would be able to provide you more detailed information. There may be a decent existing wifi at the hotel.

Here is the link to the Digicel direct information in case you would like to check out some basic prices:

No e-mail from you. I didn't know about the PM message option. I looked everywhere for the contact us link... at the TOP of the page, in FAQs, etc. Thought it was strange that there was none. I go the the bottom of the page pretty much never... sigh. I spent 2-3 says trying to get my name back & finally gave up.

Will I need to change my password since YvonneNegril has the same one I use for message boards? That's where I think my netbook will then be messed up since that hasn't been affected by the brown outs. At least now I know what's causing me to be logged out of sites instead of just being able to automatically be signed on.

Going to check my education message board now. That's another one I've had to keep logging into lately. Sheesh!

That pretty much describes me, too. My co-workers used to call me Amish Girl at work (before I retired). LOL Here's my experience...

Arrived in Negril late afternoon last Monday so no trip to town to change $$, shop, etc. Off I go Tuesday a.m. Already topped up my phone via the internet, set up my international calling plan, now to get my wireless set up. No USB modems until 2 p.m. I expected as much as friends warned me months ago. Please save one for me... I'll be back first thing Wed. I was & they did. I bring my netbook to Negril, purchased it specifically for my travels here. The gentleman who works at Digicel was not only helping me install & set up, he was waiting on all the other customers, too. The 2 women working there were off to parts unknown. Omar, I believe the man's name is, was a wiz... selling phone credit, setting up people's phone w/ international plans, showing phones, helping me, etc. I was impressed. Not sure what the women were supposed to do because it was pretty much nothing during the 2 almost hours I was there.

Had some problem w/ the USB modem... defective. A new one solved that problem. Because I already have an account w/ Digicel, registration was pretty easy... the wireless service connected to my existing account. The USB modem cost $3688J (42.88US), all inclusive. I planned to buy time for use after the 72 hour free use so also did that online. I'm set for my entire stay here. $3750 (43.60) I had to activate the month plan after the 72 hours but had been shown how to do it. I alctually remembered! Works well but you have to be close to/on your balcony/patio. Today is my first time on the balcony. Usually use it perched near the sliding glass doors when I get up in the a.m. Now that I have my initial investment in the USB modem, I'm good for every trip from now on. I'll top up online before I head to Negril & activate it once I'm there... just like my phone.

    I hope this helps.
