I keep telling my friends to come to Jamaica, that it is totally safe. Now this, after Alfred, after Mickey Hill, after 23/7. Can I really keep telling my friends how safe Negril is?

This tragic event is very unfortunate, I knew Ted well having lived at Roots for a couple years and webcasting the Wednesday night show for many years. I stopped by Roots yesterday morning to see my friends there and how they are dealing with the news. There was much talk and we were all comforting each other. A very somber scene.

Seeing as this is a very local issue here in Negril, there was much speculation yesterday at Roots as to why the event occurred. The emotions were running high and the rumors were flying.

But please know that this was not a tourist related event and did not occur anywhere near any tourist area, but far up in the bush where Ted had chosen to live in Hanover.

In order to maintain the truth in this tragic situation, we ask that everyone, as always, please refrain from spreading rumor and speculation here on Negril.com. There is no common theme regarding the why's of the unrelated events mentioned, other than the people involved were all known by regular visitors to Negril. If you are close friends with Ted and his family, I am sure you can find out the information that you may need to know by calling those closest to Ted.

I first met "Ted" (although I always called him Mr. Plumber" as a personal inside joke) back in the early '90s through the late owner of Whistling Bird over our mutual love of Jazz. Ted traveled to the beat of a different drum both in business and in life.

My prayers go out to his family, friends and staff at Roots.


The World (and especially Negril) will be a lesser place with his passing.

R.I.P Mr. P. - We have known him for many years. All of our interactions were very positive. He had a big heart and was a very kind man. So sorry to hear about this. May his relatives and many, many friends find comfort that he is in a better place now.

I've known Ted for almost 20++ years, back in the day when Henry ran the front desk, Effie chasing all the women in the place, Miss Heather baking cakes, and Ted used to be there everyday spreading smiles with his stories. RIP Ted..
