    Introduction .......

Good Afternoon Everyone! My first time posting on the board, although I have been lurking around it for a couple of years now

A little background ..... my soon-to-be hubby and I have been to Negril twice. First time in February 2010, second in February 2011. We made the mistake of deciding to try "something new" for our 2012 winter vacation and ended up in Cozumel. Didn't have a bad time, but spent the whole time missing Negril.

Good news is that we are coming to Jamaica again this year anyway! We have decided it's time to get married and where better to do it than on the beaches of Negril! Our wedding is booked for November 28th at Cocolapalm with the reception/dinner afterwards at Catcha.

It started out just going to be the two of us, but once the word got out things changed. We now have about 20-25 people coming.

All that is left in my wedding planning is finding some inexpensive live music to play for about a half an hour on the beach right after we are married and then for a couple of hours afterwards at Ivan's.

There was a mento band that we were interested in that played at a birthday party we attended at Coco but their fee is $180 an hour, which is a bit out of our price range.

I was googling today and found this youtube video and would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to be able to find this man to see if he would be willing to come and play for us ....... is it possible that anybody knows who he is and where I could contact him?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk-cO...eature=related

Would appreciate any input anyone has as well! You guys are the experts and I have learned so much from what I have read on here.

    Thanks,
    Rina

Welcome Rina and congrats on your upcoming marraige. Negril is the perfect place for love!

I don't know the band in the video but enjoyed watching it so much. I bet someone here will know so keeping my fingers crossed for you.

There is a band led by Omar that plays around town and boardies may know how to contact. Omar is a great musician on his own but does have a band and they are great! Good luck finding your music. I hope you will please bless us with a report and/or photos from your wedding. Bless your union!!!!

It looks like they might be in front of idle awhile--and definitely lots of locals guys (lobster man etc) passing by. If you don't mind leaving it to chance, you could comb the beach while you are there--but last thing you probably want is for it to be up in the air. Hopefully some recent wedding havers will offer some suggestions, there are some great musicians in Negril.

Welcome Rina and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I recognize that band from our November Trip to Negril! They were singing on the beach in front of the Grand Pineapple. Their music was SO beautiful. I have a brief footage of them performing one of their songs that I'll upload and share once I get a chance. The main singer and the guitar player on the left was there. The bongo drummer was not there but the other guitar player was amazing too. He could play his guitar behind his back. They were so talented, warm, friendly and thankful when I gave them a tip. I'm sure they would love to play for your wedding. Unfortunately, I didn't get their names.

    Here are two pictures:

Good luck finding them, I'm sure someone else on the board will know who they are.

If not, I second the suggestion of Stephen West. He is amazing!

Eureka!! I have been able to locate the musician in the youtube video. His name is Tafari, and I now have his phone number! Isn't the internet just a wonderful thing?

He looked very familiar and I was thinking that we saw him play at Shereta's for the Thursday night buffet on our first trip, a member on another forum agreed that she thought it was him as well, so I emailed Seawind the youtube video and they confirmed for me that it was the same band and they sent me his phone number.

Keeping my fingers crossed that he will be available that day.

Thanks for the input everyone! I agree Steven West is great too, we saw him at the SeaStar on our last visit! And SeaStar is first on our agenda when we get to Negril on the 24th of November.

5 months today until the wedding! Is it too soon to start counting the days?
