Rob - Thanks for the link to the NY Times Book review. I've been away for a few days (semester started and I'm super busy) and I didn't see it until now.

ISLAND ODYSSEY It is set in pre-tourism Negril - 1970 - a great look into the origins - adventure, romance, beginnings of Reggae, etc.

The Children of Sisyphus by Orlando Patterson a Jamaican author. Not a light fun read, but so worth making the effort.

    Pineapple,

Another interesting although rather bleak take on Kingston in the early 1960's. For those wanting to know a bit of how things were in the Kingston ghettos some 50 years ago when Jamaica became independent from the British Crown, then this book is a must read!
