Mine were delivered the next day to my hotel in Negril. Airport security is required to hand search every bag....not that you'd have valuables in them. Just letting you know.

If you are flying on the same airline, this should not really be an issue. MIA also recently completed a new luggage sorting/transport system that will speed up the process even more.

When we went down for our wedding in 2010, our plane landed in Miami about 5-10 minutes before our next one to MoBay was supposed to leave, luckily it was the next gate, we literally exited the door and went to the right into the door right next to us and boarded.....our bags made it fine (thankfully)

In all 12 trip so far my bags were only lost once, back in 1999 and I was staying at a guest house in Green Island. They had someone drive them out to me and I got my bags at about 7pm that night.
    No problem, mon!

We have had connecting flights many times in the past and several under an hour layover. They were either in Memphis or Charlotte not in Miami. To our amazement our luggage always made it and a few times we watched it being loaded as we sat in our seats (whew!). A few years ago we had a direct flight and 3 of our 4 bags were lost. It was a nightmare since the bag that made it only had beach towels, snacks, inflatables, etc. Since I always bring a ridiculous amount of clothes and shoes I was miserable to say the least (well the trouper that I am I did manage to have a little bit of fun). I started worrying that the airline wouldn't find us since we stay in the small hotel behind the Shamrock but at 10:00 pm the next night (Christmas Eve) our bags were delivered. What a great Christmas present.

We had a lost bag a couple years ago. My son-n-laws. #1 they already new it was lost and where it was while the rest of our bags were being pulled from carousel at MBJ. #2 2 options, they would deliver to hotel next a.m. (we had a 7:00 p.m. arrival flight), or we could pick up at airport.

I had another couple to pick up next day so I took pick up bag at airport option. I went in a door just to the left of the arrival exit and showed my ID and son-n-laws bag check. They brought out bag and with my signature turned it over. I will note there was an airline inspection tag (not TSA) on the bag. Overall a painless process allowing me to experience on more of the runnings.
