I will not be going in the water at Pelican Bar either. Clarity's sea urchin experience already sealed the deal for me. Now with Steph's stingray bite it will really never happen.

Garystep1019...Please correct me if this is incorrect. You were stung by the stingray....not bitten.....correct?

Sting Rays are generally docile but will usually only sting a human from their tail if stepped on. Its a defense mechanism. I've hand fed sting rays many times & never been bitten. Even put my hand in the mouth....lol. I'm just trying to get an understanding as to what happened since some in this thread seem to have a sting and a bite confused. A sting ray will not go out of their way to hurt someone & shouldn't be feared.

Yes I was stung. I just never corrected anyone that said bitten bc I assumed it was a misuse of a word. I certainly don't think it was an aggressive thing... I was in his/her territory. This certainly won't keep me from the ocean though! Maybe make me more cautious

Thanks for the clarification I'm sure its a nasty sting. My sister was stung as a kid and I remember what she went through.

Maybe someday you can visit someplace like Sting Ray City and see how cool a creature they really are! I've seen more places like that popping up around the Caribbean.

I've been stung in Negril maybe 10 years ago. Hurt pretty bad, but managed to still have a great time. Gotta' remember to do the stingray shuffle.

Ouch, Steph! Glad the sting didn't keep you from enjoying your trip. I've been stung by jelly fish before, but I can only imagine how much more painful your sting was! Feel better!

OOOh we did Stingray city in Cayman Islands in 2009
We fed the stingrays and they even gave us kisses, which we were told is good luck! lol
