Lone femaile Need Advice for Travelling about Negril via Taxi at night

I'm going to arrive a couple days before my friends and want to take in a couple of live shows a the local establishments at night by myself, need advice/private driver recommendation, someone who I could call to come when I'm ready, but dosen't charge a fortune. (I don't think the route taxi will be an option especially on the way back home later at night.) The private drivers I know don't do local and it's been my experience that the hotel concierge simply flags the first cabi lingering across the street ( had a bad experience with this type of cab - another passenger jumping in the front and locking all the doors from the front panel control on us-that time at least i wasn't alone)..hence need a recommendation /phone contact on a reliable and safe guy.

Well there was that first night hahahaha He came with me to Luciano...

good driver (and friend) when I need him...met him on my first trip. Can't say enough good things about him. Remember Marley....Hardware store??? LOL

Oh and that day when Jon/Booper checked out of catcha....i hung back....then I changed my mind and wanted to find y'all on the Pub Crawl. He came and scooped me up and was laughing @ me because I had no idea where we were going. I just told him "Ok, we are looking for a big colorful bus. Theres no way we will miss it. They are either somewhere on the beach or on the cliffs, no problem right?" Hahahahahaha He just shook his head and laughed at me. We drove around for awhile stopping a few places and him asking people if they seen it. LOL Finally just had him drop me at Country Country.

Lee, I agree you are wise to take caution being solo female and all....

Most of the cabbies are nice. Just tell one you want round trip and don't pay until you arrive back, and I guarantee your safety will be a big focus by him.

There are many great taxi drivers in the Negril area that can handle your needs. I would hope that people would post their name and numbers publicly here so that everyone can gain from the knowledge and also the staff here at Negril.com would be able to verify that they are legally licensed and insured drivers. We try and verify that every driver mentioned on Negril.com is a legal taxi.

If people pm you directly about a driver without posting the information here also prevents others from being able to comment on such drivers. Sometimes others may have different experiences than the person PM'ing you.

I dont mean this in any way as directed towards Tizzy, but I do wish she would post the information here so it can be verified and commented on. And if anyone else is PM'ing you with their driver's names and numbers, please take them with a grain of salt. What cannot be verified should be suspect.

There have been incidents in the past where visitors have gotten into unfortunate incidents when taking non-legal taxis.

The one fact to always remember is to be sure your driver is driving a red licensed plated vehicle. This means that the driver is properly licensed and insured to carry visitors in Jamaica. Getting into any other vehicle is similar to hitchhiking and remember - should there be any illegal items in the vehicle, you now become an accomplice to the illegal activity instead of simply a paying passenger in a legal taxi and immune to such activity.

Good advice again Rob. Lee, We can recommend Tallman, he is reliable, legal and a great guy. His # is 876-873-8442, and usually around Best in the West, across from coco-la-palm, his van is very nice. We enjoy his company, and consider him a freind, he is very knowledgable, and makes us feel like someones got your back when out anywhere with him. Cheers!
