The reason behind the bob Marley reincarnated headline is because Snoop stated this himself in his press conference.

“Anytime the spirit calls you, you gotta know that it’s serious and it’s real. When the spirit called me, it told me to find something that was connected towards the Bob Marley spirit. Because I’ve always said that I was Bob Marley reincarnated.”

See below you link to the conference:

Clearly Snoop Dogg/Snoop Lion is NOT Bob Marley reincarnated but I think I understand what he was trying to say. He feels inspired by Bob Marley and wants to take his music into a new direction. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.

I actually think it’s very cool. He’s promoting the beauty of Jamaica, the music, and the Rastafarian culture. He’s trying to turn a new leaf. He wants to focus on love & peace now. I’m all for new beginnings. I look forward to checking out his upcoming album.

I just so happened to watch this press conference live via youtube and he indeed said it, not once but TWICE. On a side note, I would love to hear Rohan Marley's opinion on this matter because he was in the audience when Snoop "Lion" made this claim. He may not have meant it literally, but that is how it appeared while watching it first hand . I felt that he came across as somewhat ignorant in the way he made the claim of reincarnation. When I say ignorant I don't mean it in a bad way, but rather that IMO Snoop didn't take into account the seriousness of making such a claim.

I also think that if Snoop "Lion" can get past this little speed bump and move forward in a positive direction making good music, the sky is the limit. Although his music might not seem up to par to a true fan of Jamaican music, it could have a huge impact on Jamaican music and it's acceptance the world over.

Thanks for the link Clairity! Kind of reminds me of the John Lennon "bigger than Jesus" press conference comment.

Just because Snoop is a big celebrity doesn't mean Jamaica can't influence/move him spiritually any less than many on this board has said happened/happens to them when they are in Jamaica!!! Why be so quick to judge the man....give him some time with an open mind/heart and embrace this positive move he is saying he is called to follow! Big ups to the man for an awesome awakening I say!!

I think he would have been better guided if he had approached it like NAS.

Fortunately jasper Gongzilla doesn't share your opinion lol.

Point being nas didn't try and be anything different than what he was...and plenty rappers out there love to jafake it, jay-z, Kanye, mos def, lots...

Nas and jr gong approached their collaborations respecting each other from where they were coming from and didn't put on any airs. Snoop doesn't need to put on the name "lion" and try and rhyme in Patwa he could have done his tribute album same way plenty of artists would line up to work like that as hip hop history shows.

i get your point numbers wise - Nas has a large hip hop following - as does Snoop so i also get what your trying to say.. I saw jr gong and nas play in chicago last year - and the crowd liked Nas allot - half of the songs were without Damian, the crowd in chicago was louder for the Nas solo songs - but i could of not seen them and been happier - lol - but from what i have seen is Nas is extemely racist against whites - and that doesnt sit well with me - and maybe it influences whether i would like his music or not..

i definitely dont think Snoop should go hardcore and sing in patwa... but his point was he wants to make reggae - something his family can enjoy.. and this comes from a extended stay in jamaica - so i believe it is pure..

La La La hasnt won me over for artist of the year - but if he sticks with it - id like to think the lion could make a nice roar.. : )

i was in high school when doggystyle was released - that and Dre's 'the chronic' are the classic albums of hip hop. that being said - why not embrace the idea that he wants to make reggae - i will listen - so will many others - and Snoop is way past the need to impress everyone.. hes doin what he feels he should - good for him..

well who is to say art has to be done one way or another. come on people. let the artist express himself. If you don't like it, leave it. It is not for someone to say oh he should do this or that. Far worse things are being done in the world right now and Snoop Lion's thing as he speaks it is a move of positive order. If the man talks of Marley and reincarnation--why not let him speak and answer to the meaning of what he said himself. I am a Bob Marley fan from way back in the day and I don't take offense.

I for one am glad for having the opportunity to be something different than what I was, a few times. And have become a better person for it. Why hold something over a musician's head, saying this is what you are, don't try to be different. Some of my favorite musicians are those that have gone again and again outside of genre and definition. Why box and stereotype something as freeing as music, dance, painting, writing, or just being. My last two cents for now, gonna wait and see wha gwan with this guy's music and the path he chooses to trod. Why make judgement?
