fisherman with pelican

Last trip I watched a fisherman pass by Catcha with a pelican.......is this a pet. Does anyone know the story???

I saw the same thing while having breakfast there one morning.

I would love a pelican as a first mate on my boat. The pelican gets a free ride out. As the fisherman gets closer to the fishing grounds, the bird flies off and locates bait-fish for breakfast, fisherman proceeds to catch fish under the bait, both go home happy fishers.
