Ron,
Hurricane prediction is in an inexact science at best. There are many factors that come into play. To suggest that this storm at the beginning of August means there will be one when you are here at the end of August is like saying that if it snowed in early December it will snow at the end of December.... No one can say with any certainty.
There is no reason to fret man...

I don't know if this will ease anyone's concern or not, but I will share my Tropical Storm/Hurricane experience.
It was Gustav and I think in 2008??? It was late August and my birthday...a few days before the storm they took all the boats/jet skiis, etc. etc. out of the ocean and the water was CALM...not ONE wave (really errie!!!!), and the day before they closed the airport and grounded all planes!!!!. I was at Hedonism II, and they gave us instructions on what to do and told us that if we wanted to leave that we could...well we said ***k it and decided to ride the storm out!!! The storm came and went and we survived...at one point the winds died down a bit and the rain eased up and we made our way to the dining room to get some food/drinks and as soon as we got there the winds and rain picked back up!!!! so we were stuck there instead of our rooms and Hedonism II has an open air dining room...OK!!!
Needless to say, the locals knew what to do and kept all the guest calmed and informed and all in all no major damage, but there was lots of flooding and the ocean waves were very choppy and high.

Been through every major storm in Jamaica since the big one, Gilbert, back in 1988. And yes Luvs, Jamaicans do know how to deal with the storms! This one is not even worth bothering about at this point...

Well said Rob, I like the analogy of the snow. Mother Nature will strike when she wants! We were there in 2008 during Tropical Storm Paloma in earlly November. The Jamaican's do know what they are doing. When they say it will be bad, it will be. We only had flooding and wind.
