I have been waiting to see just what people think how you pronounce the name Accompong as I have at least 3 or 4 neighbors who were born and raised in Accompong Town and their family line goes back to before the Maroon War and they all pronounce it slightly differently.
Generally, the majority of the town's residents pronounce it (short A) (accent on COM) and (pong [like ping pong]) or aCOMpong phonetically speaking. Some say it like (strong "Ack") (com) (pong) phonetically ACcompong.
As well meaning as any Jamaican can be (as they all have a variety of strong opinions either right or wrong), it is hard to think that a random person in Negril would know better how to pronounce it more than the direct decendants of Accompong and residents of the town.

Sorry Accompong...Rob and I didn't ask Connie if she was a direct descendant or not...she was just kind enough to give her version.
So...this would bring us to the next question...how does one pronounce Negril?
We know that it isn't pronounced only one way by those born & raised in Negril.![]()
