    We know that it isn't pronounced only one way by those born & raised in Negril.
    Sorry if you took it like I was in anyway "mocking" her for this as even a "direct descendant" would only have a 50% chance or so of giving the generally accepted pronunciation as you find in Accompong Town.

    As far as Negril. I believe it is pronunced Nay grill as it came from the black eel in the river. In Spanish, it is "Na" sound and not "Ne" sound. At least that is what I was told but, who knows???

    The name Negril is a shortened version of Negrillo (Spanish: Little black ones), as it was originally named by the Spanish in 1494. The name is thought by some to be a reference to the black cliffs south of the village.[citation needed] Another theory holds that because there was a vast population of black eels along Negril's coast, the Spaniards called the area Negro Eels which was shortened to Negrillo and then to Negril
