Shade on the beach? Floats in the ocean?

Hi,first post here but I've read dozens of pages of posts and haven't seen these questions asked...

We are spending 9 days on the beach in Negril in September and we love to sit on the beach but need shade. Would it be frowned upon if we brought and put up our own sun shade if we can't find a shady spot? I believe they are 3 to 4 feet tall, and we wouldn't set up in front of the beach, but in back behind existing chairs.

Also, do people use pool floats in the ocean?

We're staying at the Treehouse, does anyone know if we'll have a hard time finding shade on the beach in that general area?

Sunbeach has shade and it is public. Firefly has the best and closest shade tree to the water, but I think you must be guests there or purchase some drinks and see if you can relax under that great grape tree.

Do people ever put up their own sun shades? (They look like half-tents or curved strips of fabric on poles. I can post links to what I'm talking about if necessary?

I know what you are talking about, but I don't think I have ever seen anyone put up their own shade tent on the beach. Some places, like the Treehouse do have a sunshade tent up on a part of their beach. I don't see why it would be an issue for you to bring your own, especially if you are placing it where it will not block anyone's view. We always bring one of those foldable mini children's sunshade tents with us, so that our babies can nap on the beach in shade. The one we have is only about 16 inches high though.

Yea people use floats/rafts in the sea......bring them from home cuz on the beach they can be more expensive...hit up walmart for end of season summer stuff.....I always bring a cheap raft and leave it when I'm done....Treehouse boys will also blow it up for you with an air pump thingy.

Treehouse has individual umbrellas at each lounger. South edge of property on the beach has loungers under trees for natural shade.
I saw some rafts sold locally but they look flimsy
