I need a contact person for school donations...
I was at a nearby casino and they were giving away bookbags to all of their players club members. Watching this throng of people (mainly senior citizens who obviously didn't need a bookbag) snatching them up, made me think of all of the Jamaican children who COULD use them. So, I approached the young gentleman handing them out and asked what they did with the leftover bookbags? (They literally had hundreds of boxes of them!) He wasn't aware what they did with them but directed me to another worker who was apparently in charge of promotions and donations.
I think I may have gotten a connection for a sizeable amount of bookbags to be donated but they are requiring a contact person @ the Jamaican school that these bookbags will be donated to.
So, my question is this: Does anyone know of a contact that I could get in touch with and provide to this casino so that these Jamaican kids could get these bookbags?
I think they actually want someone AT the school....
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can also check with Sandals Negril. They work with different schools down there.

Re: I need a contact person for school donations...
Please call Pastor Ricardo Cooper at Calvary Baptist Church. He does a neighborhood school supply distribution. The children do not have to be members of the church. He can be reached at (876) 891-0488. I delivered 240 pounds of school supplies to him last year and the response was great. He can provide a letter for customs. I didn't even need the letter, they just let me through with no questions asked and yes, I declared everything. I will be there again October 20-30.

Re: I need a contact person for school donations...
Thanks so much for all your assistance. We are heading to Negril March 2-10 2013 and plan on taking whatever we can aquire for the school children down with us then.
I was also wondering about orphanages and if there would be a need for small childrens clothes. My two grandaughters are outgrowing everything and have some cute baby girl clothes that are too nice to throw away and its not worth the trouble of having a garage sale. I could give them to goodwill here, but they sell everything and I don't want them sold...I want them given to someone who needs them.
Thanks again!

St Anthony's Kitchen - provides meals and school supplies to local children in need. The Kitchen was set up with the support of the local Catholic Church in Negril, buy operates mainly on donations from both local people/businesses and from tourists who are inclined to help. If you like, you can volunteer to help out at the Kitchen for a few hours. It is a great experience. They also accept donations of children's gently used clothes.

i met a guy in Lucea @ Hurry-Hurry (aka Sinclairs)
he was the point-man for his church, which had a *special* project where they purchased school uniforms & shoes for children in need --- when i met him he had a van with over 20 youths getting new shoes & uniforms
contact info::: [[ hopefully this info (below) is still good/valid ]]
Micheal Gordon

an aside:::>> i was in Hurry-Hurry to get a school uniform for MYSELF
...idiot-me SHOULD have gotten 2-3 more for myself ..... i kick-myself daily 'cause only purchased one uniform
:-(
i LOVE the uniform
..fit great

..doesn't wrinkle
..sooooooooo cool when the weather is hot & humid
..material is fantastic --- BETTER than ANY-thing you'll get in any USofA store
..better than Gap, JCPenny, or where-ever
..INEXPENSIVE ...!!!... compared to USofA prices
