    An Otober Question

Well not that it is going to make any difference in the situation, but I had no idea that Jamaica was so so popular in October. I was looking at the flights in and out well after the middle of the month and THE FLIGHTS ARE PACKED, going and coming. I am reasoning:It's still hurricane season, the kids are back in school, and no major events agwan far as I know. What's up?

Airlines are cutting flights to fly more FULL planes, Oct is still a pretty good month to go to Ja, waters warm from the summer, low season hotel prices and it is just before the bad winter hits the northern hemisphere. All around a good time to go before the holidays.

Airlines are becoming adept at filling seats. The load factors (% of sold seats) are commonly in the high 80's. They now gauge the aircraft to the routes to minimalize wasted (empty) seats. You now see 737s and small airbuses coming from american hubs where you used to see 747s and L1011s 3 X bigger. There are fewer low and shoulder season flights and more companies are cooperating with each other by code sharing (selling seats on other airlines) A better gauge would be hotel occupancy and from what great deals I see offered in Negril in October I would say it is a good time to go.

It's partially because like others said airlines are becoming more efficient at calculating their passenger loads....

But the other side of it is that it's a gimmick to get you to buy your ticket immediately, if they told you there was an empty flight available you wouldn't rush to buy a ticket, but airlines are using marketing ploys to "hype" up their products.

I tried to buy a ticket on a site the other day and there were 88 left at X price but by the time I got through checkout the X price was no longer available and my only "options" were slightly more expensive tickets.

I then waited 24 hours and went back to the same site, 88 seats available at X price again.

This wasn't some no name airline website, this was Orbitz and it infuriated me that they're "legally" doing shady stuff like this. I use "" around legally because I'm pretty sure I could prove it's a bait and switch with what I encountered, now actually getting the authorities to do anything about it is a totally different issue.

Blake this is no gimmick....I have access to the actual passenger loads and trust me, the flights are truly packed, going and coming ,especially for when I checked them last week which was almost two months in advance. I don't remember flights with so little wiggle room that far out. THanks for the reply.
