    Cellphone rental

I hear the airport do not rent cellphones anymore?

If you are not hiring a private driver what is the simplest way of getting a mobile?

I bought a quad band or some expensive thing a couple of trips back I was told it would work and to get get a sim from the store, It did not work

What do you find the easiest and least expensive?

    Hello,

I did the same thing and bought a phone on Ebay. It did not work with Digicel but is working with Lime. Have you tried with a Lime sim card ?

Does anyone know if Lime will send a sim card by mail? I've tried to ask through their website but am getting automated responses without getting my question answered...lol.

I'm trying to get a new Lime sim card prior to my arrival in late December as the store will be closed for the first few days of my trip for the holidays.

Let me know if you find out about that. I left my phone there last time but I have another Nokia that needs a Sim and I hate having to trek down to Digicel right when I get there...it will also be right after Boxing Day so like you, I'm not sure of the Holiday hours and such. Thanks!

The Lime store is close Christmas Daay & Boxing Day. They do not send sim cardss through the mail. There are some websites that sell them but they are very expensive.

Just buy the cheapest cellphone they have at the Digicel store. Then make a gift of it to someone when you leave. It's been running under $30 US total for several years.

Don't overspend on minutes, you can buy them in small increments.

I just rent one from white sands where we stay, one dollar a day, and buy the minutes

check out this thread, started a little while ago but last post was today/yesterday:

Look for Marko's post - he did a thorough price comparison within the last couple of months - Lime was around $20 all in, and Digicel was more like $50. I believe there aren't many places that rent anymore, but White Sands is a good price for sure! If you can buy one for $20 and go to Jamaica regularly, it'll quickly pay for itself vs renting though.
