This can create a dilemma. I was in Belize and climbed into the ceiling thatched roof to hide a decent sum of money. You gotta be creative sometimes...lol.

We also have a pacsafe that we use and would highly recommend it. Used it for six month stay with never a problem. Just cable it to a solid structure in any non obvious place.
I don't bring anything that anyone would want to steal! Also, I'm quite talented at hiding cash in room (disclaimer: not recommended if you're under the influence or have poor short term memory, LOL) or on my person. Mostly I just use ATM to take out what little I need.
I have used the "hide things" method....problem is I hide them too good. LOL
Stir IT UP
Would I be correct in my thinking that your cash and passport etc., are safer on your person, than left unsecured or "hidden" in your unoccupied room? This of course involves not flashing your cash, not being intoxicated, etc. (I think you are less likely to be a victim of violent crime, than a so-called crime of opportunity). Valuable items like expensive jewelry or cameras should be left at home, alternately would be wise to stay at a place with safekeeping for such items. I think any place described as a resort in Negril would have some form of safekeeping service available.
Don't leave camera, purse, watches etc on a tabletop that is in front of or next to a window.
If you 'stash' around your room, make a list of where you put things, so you can find them again.
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I think I will try one of the Pac Safes, start wearing a bra, find a hut with a thatched roof (Oh, Belize!), etc. If I hide my valuables, I would never find them. I can't find stuff at home. For instance, I have a great filing system; its my retrieval system that needs a lot of work. "Honey, have you seen_________?" (Fill in the blank).
So, a Pacsafe, cheap camera, no money, leave smartphone at home, no jewelry. Sounds like a plan. As long as I have a pair of swim trunks, a tank top, and enough cash for a few RS, we'll be good to go.
If you go to your local "tobacco" shop where they sell pipes and adult videos.....they sell items that look like deoderent spray cans and coke cans, etc. They look totally real. The bottom unscrews off and you can hide money & credit cards, etc. in there. I think Spencers Gifts sell them too. I have no doubt you can find them on ebay. Just an idea.
