Mort,
Everyone on the internet has an IP address. It is how the internet works. Without them, there would be no way for you to see the page that you click on. All internet sites and servers record this information.
For some sites, the IP determines what you are able to view on the site. For instance, Hulu will block IPs from countries that are not the USA, Jamaican IPs are blocked from seeing certain shows on Hulu. Also, so basic things like Google.com will show up as Google.com.jm when accessing Google from Jamaica.
IPs are also used to compile traffic statistics for websites - showing how much traffic comes from each country.
Message Board/Forum software all store IP address and are used to record where the posts are being made and aid in the verification of the information being posted, as well as helping to prevent spammers from plying their trade. All message boards record this information, and the more intrusive sites actually will display this information on the post themselves - allowing everyone to see the poster's real IP address. We have turned off this option to protect privacy.
Negril.com - For the vacation that never ends!
I understand this and I have no problem with an administrator knowing this information. Maybe its just me but I thought it was a little inappropriate to be broadcasting where she is posting from. No biggie as long as you don't tell everyone where I am. LOL
OK, its all good. I'm just kind of paranoid about that stuff.
