Hussyband~ I think we may have just had our expectations set too high. And like I said, it was a good experience and the staff was very nice.
At the risk of sounding like one of "those people" who complain about sheets thread count Heres a few things that bugged me..
They ran out of diet soda after our first day. Everytime I would request one I was told that they were out,. Now..not a big deal, went and bought my own and kept it in our fridge and would go to the room and grab one between frozen rum drinks. But since they even have a place on the reservation form to list if there are any special foods you would like to try etc.. I thought they would have restocked some diet soda for me. I guess I should have put it on the form. lol
Also, outlets in the room were hard to find. I get rustic, I like rustic, but I also like access to electricity. Again, not a big deal, I brought extension cords and just had to remember to replug things in .
And while the food was good, especially for breakfast, I didn't find it over the top good. Again.. expectations maybe too high. We booked the private cave dinner, thought we'd have something special but it was the same chop suey(i think thats what it was) that was served for regular dinner that night.Food was ok but we've had better meals at other places on the cliffs.
Hope I didn't sound petty and we really did enjoy our time there, but for us its not a good value for the money. Other places on the cliffs that we liked just as much or better. So.. next trip to the cliffs will probably be back to Tensing Pen(loved it!) or Catcha(also loved it!). The only other place on the cliffs we've stayed that we thought was overpriced for what you got was Rockhouse.
Having said all that. I do think you'd like The Caves, we just weren't blown away by it. But I know it gets rave reviews so maybe its us.
