Re: Do we need steel toe shoes?
Steel toes and maybe a helmet. Thought it was just me too. One day on a walk on the beach I tripped over a good sized rock in the sand. Stumbled, jumped did everything but fall down. Jacked up 3 of my toes real good blood coming out and everything. Wife was laughing as I cursed up a storm and limped in a circle. Made my way down to the water and soaked as I limped the rest of the walk on the beach. Have a nice trip? See you next fall....

Re: Do we need steel toe shoes?
last year my wife and sister in law did in their toes, 2 years ago on our 2nd day of a 17 day trip i ran across the road after a few Red Stripes at Jah Bs and stubbed by big toe on the rough pavement big time, by the time we got to our room my big toe was covered in blood with the FLAP, bandaged it up for the nite and deal with it in the morning, next day we went to the drug store to get more bandages, gauze, liquid bandage, along with a few pairs of latex gloves, with the help of my wife she bandaged it up and then cut off a finger of the latex glove and used it to cover the toe, it was a great conversion piece because everyone asked why i had a condem on my big toe, L.O.L., soon come

Re: Do we need steel toe shoes?
Once at a resort in Negril I realized I hadn't taken any sunset pics and we were leaving in 2 days. I rushed from the room down the sidewalk to the beach barefoot. Because I was rushing and looking at the sunset, I didn't see where the concrete was broken and had a jagged edge. I hit the edge full force with the bottom of my foot and ripped (yes RIPPED) a huge chunk from the bottom of my foot. My momentum propelled me forward and my injured foot landed in the sand.
I limped back to my room and to show my wife the damage. I had a very large, deep skin flap that should have been bleeding, but because it was packed with sand, there was little blood. She went looking for the resort nurse, but because it was late, she had already gone for the evening. We cleaned it the best we could and bandaged it with what we could buy from the gift shop.
The next morning I limped to the nurse's station. The nurse looked at the would and said, "Ya mon, that's bad. That needs to come off.". Without warning she reached over and got a razor and proceeded to cut off the skin flap. OMG! then she stuck my foot under the faucet and washed it and began to scrub the wound bed with gauze to clean it.
Thankfully that was our last day before heading home. I didn't miss too much fun because of my injury. It took almost two full months before my foot completely healed. I would gladly wear steel toed boots on the beach if it meant i didn't have to go thru that again!
