If you're tipping $2 per day, you're not cheap. I stay for weeks (5-7) every summer & tipping $5 per day would be unreasonable for me. I should add, I also give extra $$$ at the end of my stay for ALL my housekeepers plus bring/leave them items they can use. I also tip the beach staff & adding all the daily tips... really boosts my room rate.

For those of you who tip at the end of your stay, please don't do that. Tip daily. You may not - probably won't - have the same housekeeper every day. You may very well be leaving a big tip for someone who has provided service to you for a day, maybe two. I don't know where this concept came from but it is very inaccurate.

Long ago I worked in housekeeping (one summer while in college) at a resort hotel so I know how hard people work for you. I was actually surprised when I received tips. I was doing my job but it was also of top quality. Once I knew what the deal was, had my relief been collecting my tips, I would have been unhappy. I literally was expected to vacuum walls as well as the carpet in every room I cleaned, clean the bathroom floors w/ a toothbrush. I'm not kidding. I know that's not the way it is in Negril, but I do know the housekeeping staff works hard to do the best for you, their guest.
