This is a good point. We stay at a small resort, and we know there is only one housekeeper. So at the end of our stay I personally give her a tip for our entire stay. My only concern about leaving a few bucks each day, is that our room gets pretty cluttered and if I leave a couple dollars on a table or nightstand, I'm not sure she would know to take it. I just prefer to personally hand-over the tip for any service.

At large hotels, especially in the States, you will find a "tip envelope" for housekeepers in the room. In this case, I have no problem leaving a daily tip, because they know its for them. Also, we will often put up the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign, and if we sleep in too late the housekeeper may never come. If this is the case, they won't get their daily tip. However, in Negril I don't see these envelopes in the rooms.
