Re: Raise your hand if you like going SOLO to Negril ....

Hubby and I started going to Negril together the year he proposed to me (11 years ago!) and it became our "place," and we went every year until 2011. Then I changed jobs and went from 6 weeks of vacation to 3 per year. He still has over 6 weeks and Negril is his happy place. I encouraged him to take advantage of our comfort level there and just go solo. It didn't seem right/fair that he not get to go just because I changed jobs! It didn't take too much to convince him, especially when we decided that he would just have to go twice a year - once solo and once with me!

I know he misses me, but I know it's also SO GOOD for him to get away and just be. He wakes up, works out on the beach, makes a good breakfast, reads in the sun, takes long walks to visit friends along the beach, practices his mandolin and just enjoys being with himself. He's been known to scout out a NHL or NFL game or two. The beauty of being comfortable in a place is that he can be alone and not lonely, or he can be as social as he wants. And I love that he is able to do that with and without me.

And while I miss him, it makes me very happy that we are blessed enough - both in our lifestyle and our relationship - that he can do this for himself. I don't feel left out or jealous - except when he makes that 11:30 am call to me at work and says "hear that? It's the sound of the first Red Stripe of the day!"

Just a point of view from the non-solo traveling spouse!
